Hi, I am 16 and taking my CBT Test next Saturday and I will be using a 50cc Moped for it.

Any tips you can give me to ensure I am more confident for my CBT Test? and is it easy to pass?

Cheers.

It's not a test, it's a training course -- you can't pass or fail it. There's no need to prepare for it, it's designed to take people from never having ridden before to going on the road. (However, it might be a good idea to have a read of the Highway Code beforehand). If the instructor doesn't think you're ready after the first day, you just come back for a bit more instruction.

Its not pass/fail, you either meet the criteria or you come back another day.

Listen carefully to your instructor, keep your head up, look where you want to go and the bike will follow, ask lots of questions and have a squizz at the highway code. Oh, if you have your own lid and gloves then I would recommend that you take those along! Some of the gear lent out on my CBT day looked horrific Sick

The morning will be general bike handling, making it go and stop, weaving around cones and that sort of stuff. Normally you will get a bit of classroom time going over road skills then its out on the road with an instructor telling you where to go. You will stop to show U turns and stay out for a couple of hours then its back to the school for a cuppa and debrief.

TAKE BOTH PARTS OF YOUR PROVISIONAL LICENCE!!!!!

Thank you for the reply you two.

I know you said if you don't meet the required standard then you will have to come back another day, how hard is this standard aimed to reach?

It's not really strict is it because I don't want to end up coming back another time to do it.

It's not hard (most people manage it on the first try) but it's also not uncommon to need a 2nd day either. When I did mine I found the clutch control fairly difficult (did it on a geared 125) so I messed up the slow control bits and had to come back. Did fine the second time round. I'd say it should be a fair bit easier on a moped, since there's no gears to mess with.

Oh: and remember to have a decent breakfast and take something with you for lunch. You don't want to be hungry and lose concentration during the on-road bit.

I did my CBT today on an ER5 (didn't know you could as I thought it'd be on a 125), part of a 5 day DAS course and it was great fun. A couple of hours in a carpark getting used to the bike, doing manoeuvres etc, and then around 4 hours on the road.

The company I'm doing my DAS with are on a busy A road so when we set off for the road part, it's straight onto a 60mph road.

The only thing was it was a little nerve racking when we first went on the road as it's been around 20 years since I rode a bike but there was nothing difficult in getting the CBT certificate.

MOD 1 training tomorrow Very Happy

Was that at On Yer Bike near Aylesbury? I can imagine doing your CBT road ride on the A41 was probably a bit fun.

Yep On Yer Bike. It was fun being able to open it up as soon as we hit the road from the carpark though I left the other person on the course, and the instructor a little behind as they got stuck behind a slowish moving truck.

Spent hours riding round Aylesbury.

For the past few weeks I have been reading the highway code and learning the traffic signs, also my Dad is going to take me to some private land this weekend where I can just ride round on my Suzuki Katana ay50 and just get used to of it.

Hopefuly that will help me.

Definitely on the gear, could you imagine wearing a helmet that someone may have had a sneezing fit in?

One thing I did learn today is as much as I prefer the look of naked bikes, the buffeting on the ER5 at 60 was fun Very Happy

but theres no harm in reading the highway code, to learn your road markings, signs etc.

Its always best to prepare a little in advance, its a lot to take in for a lot of people, having a little knowledge will make things easier.
