well after the guys making the film, spammed us on the forum,
i thought, fuck it, i'll enter it this year,
basically its 1000 miles in 24 hours,
ok that doesn't sound too bad me thinks Very Happy

so the mission begins, Very Happy
i managed to convice a good mate of mine from my early army days to come along, his only problem was his old fz750 would never get past the rigorous scrutineers,
so i said he could take my bandit12 and i'd ride my honda cb1000,
Wink

any way i got the bikes ready, and 2 days before the event was to start i hadn't heard from the guy running it where it was starting from,

i assumed being as the club was located in new plymouth, that it would startfrom there.. which so happens where im currently living,
not so, Very Happy it was leaving from turangi about 5 hours from home,
so i set about madly getting the 2 bikes on the trailer,
(my mate lives in rotorua) so couldnt ride it,

oh these are my harley style fold out hi way pegs

saved my legs:D

any way got to my parents place in taupo the night before (1/2 hour from turangi) and met up with my mate dave,
had an early night ready for scrutineering at 10am on saturday,

bikes flew through, no dramas, so it was a bit of a wait until 1.10pm until our group of 10 was leaving,
we also got our route that morning which turned out to be this

anyway some pics pre-ride

https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/SAM_0169Small.jpg
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/SAM_0167Small.jpg
thats my mate dave who joined me for the ride
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/SAM_0168Small.jpg

as for the ride well, what can i say,
it was fucken long,
the roads were some of the most, twisty, gravelly, slimey, rutty, did i say twisty roads ive ever come accross, some roads were literally just tarmacked farm tracks covered in moss,
some were super fast really nice twisties, some were gravelly rutty twisties, some were mountian road twities,

the key to the whole ride is it was twistie, mile apon mile apon mile of hard on the body twisties,

basically it came down to, ride as fast as you can untill you reach the next gas station, fill up, repeat, when it started to get dark, obviously the pace decreased, but not by much, and it seemed that the roads were worse and more slippery in the dark as well Very Happy

people did say before we started the ride that the hardest point is the hour or so before dawn, may be because we'd been riding for 16hours!!! no shit. any way, when the sun did finally come up,
i got my second wind, but that just made me want to get the fucken ride finished

and with 7 hours to go, it didn't seem like it was a close thing,
my arse was numb, despite spending a small fortune on a "air hawk" seat cover, my shoulders were burning, and my hands were loosing the will to grip the bars

but what can you do... just push on, no other choice,
any way the only other pics i got from the ride,
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/SAM_0171Small.jpg
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/SAM_0172Small.jpg
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/SAM_0173Small.jpg

so,..... we finally made it, and in a not to shabby time of 21hours and 40minutes, which was about middle of the field, a few people didnt make it in time but most did, and no one crashed !! which was a bonus, not even the 70 something year old who did it... in a faster time than me i might add

and for our efforts we got a cert.

a wee badge to pin to our jackets
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/SAM_0176Small.jpg
it'll have the year on a bar below, when that turns up,
and a patch like this but with a 1, and 1000miles in 24hours

and that was the 25th annual rusty nuts grand challenge

i'll be back next year Very Happy
