Hey, pretty self explanatory - can someone lay out in COMPLETE detail, what obs i need to do and WHEN for module 1. I'm comfortable on the bikes control, and another £75 for not looking round at the right point would take the wee wee Very Happy

Many thanks Karma

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately it doesn't actually mention anything regarding obs, it's just the maneuvers themselves Smile

First thing to notice is that Module 1 costs £15.50.

Here's the thing. Even if there's an examiner on here who can tell you exactly what's required, are you intending to memorise every instance where you need to take an observation?

Treat the site as a road, and do the observations that you'd do on the road. That essentially means looking behind you before starting any move, including wheeling backwards out of the "garage", and every time that you pull away, including and especially on the U turn.

That's not hard to remember, is it? You do it on the road, so do it on the test. You get 5 minors, it's going to be very hard to fail on lack of obs.

No but you can see what is expected of you when the test pupil* goes round.

After studying the video and bearing Roger's post in mind, what more do you need to know?

*she is actually an examiner at the Gloucester test site.

This video helped me when I decided to do my Mod 1.

I also bought some small traffic cones online to practise off-road for my test (you can download the layout pdf from the dsa website).

As for the obs:
-check your mirrors before moving off, everytime
-lifesaver BEFORE performing the u-turn
-mirrors whilst slowing down
-check that the "road" is clear before moving your bike from one box to the other, keeping the checks up whilst moving it is good too
-etc.

But really, just treat is like you're on an actual road and do all the correct observations for that.

Secondly, as previously stated: Mod 1 is £15.50, why are you paying £75 for it (that's weekday mod 2 price!)

Just relax and be calm for the test. Make sure to come out of the turn at about 19/20mph for the high-speed exercises and accelerate in 2nd to the required speed (presuming you're on a 125), do your braking smoothly (nothing new). And for the emergency stop, make sure not to coast the bike or change gears, and not too hard on the rear else you'll lock the rear wheel and more than likely fail.

Other than that, good luck Thumbs UpVery Happy

£75 will be about right if he's using an instructors bike. also when i did mine instead of looking in mirrors before moving anywhere i looked over both shoulders, a examiner may miss you looking in the mirror as 90% of the time you do it just moving your eyes where as he can't miss you turning your head to look behind. 2 lifesavers on your u turn one before moving forward in straight line then one right before turning. and one of the most common fails, just brake for your emergency stop using the front brake and just cover the rear pedal with your foot as if you actually use the rear you'll likely lock it up a good progressive squeeze on the front will pull you up in time

good luck

Not sure if it's correct or not.
But when I did my E-stop on the rear brake I moved my foot on and off the pedal rapidly,so that if i locked up it was off straight away, and passed it.

Remember, every maneouver is assessed even the maneouvers they tell you to do after the controlled stop, emergency stop etc.

I got my one and only minor on the Mod 1 by failing to do any obs while turning around after the E-stop.

Treat it as a road from when you enter the test area until you're told that the test has finished.

Thank you for the helpful advice, and yeah it's £75 as i'll be hiring a bike, this is because the 125 I have been using is my brothers and he has taken it with him to college Smile

Ill remember just to cover the pedal then, and thanks for the double lifesaver tip on the U turn Thumbs Up
