Righty, i ride a 230kg (dry weight + driver and passengerless) CX500, i'm not too sure what came as standard but i'm guessing (hoping!) these aren't them, there avon speed masters or something great like that.
Here the confusion begins.. the tyre pressures are 28 front and 35 back, these are clearly for the standard tyres, the tyres themselves say..
Front 35psi under max load 180kg (ish)
and Rear 40psi under max load 280kg (ish)
(up to 130mph pfft! Laughing)
I personally reckon the tyres are the correct pressure, i noticed handling being a bit vague/twitchy on a 100mile trek up norf, the pressures were at 28f 35r

What do you all reckon? all tyres are constructed differently (these are tubeless btw) so is a 5psi difference normal?

Its really been buging me Sad (it also reminds me of when i had my cg and checked my tyres for the first time 15f 23r!!! Shocked Embarassed not as if the handleing wasn't frightening enough!)

google is a marvellous thing

unbelieveably they sound about right

I'm thinking of running 55 psi in my rear this year to see if it will decrease the rolling resistance a bit Twisted Evil

and dropping it to 12 for quarters Wink

(weirdly enough i know this guy) i've helped with some of the suff on there in fact..
Yeh these are the standard psi for the standard tyres, mine aren't standard afaik
I'm actually running the bike with the higher pressures and haven't noticed and adverse effects, in fact i think it cured the vague wobbly front... but i'd like to be sure..

Hi

Ignore the pressures printed on the side of the tyres. If anything they are probably maximum pressures for those tyres rather than recommended ones. The bikes recommendation is far more important.

All the best

all a bit odd, the avon site reccomends 28f 36b
i don't know if its my imagination or not, might be that i'm ridding differently as i get more used to the bike... is there any reason apart from tyres that the handling would go a little bit.. strange? its like the front is easier to move, more then i remember it.. the fork seals have recently been done, the rear shocks seem to be fine..
Maybe i'm just imagineing it :/ Confused

Hi

Steering head bearings are maybe worth checking first, followed by the other chassis bearings.

Go with the recommended tyre pressures on the Avon site. What is written on the tyre is irrelevant.

All the best

Keith

Had never even considered it might be bearings, funny enough i checked the steering yesterday (always something I forget Embarassed ) it seems perfectly fine, i think i'm going to have allot of work done over the summer (its 20 years old so there might be allot that needs doing) I could have the rear shocks replaced and all the bushes and any bearings + camchain and mechanical seal.. Most stuff I do myself but i'm not too into hammering away at bearings e.t.c.
Thanks for the help though, the pressures are dead on now, was going for a short (200 mile) ride today but the **** weather Thumbs Down Crying or Very sad
