Hey guys, new biker here, only just passed my CBT on Saturday, and bought a 2011 aprilia RS4 125. Planning on riding this for a year or so to get some road experience and then upgrade to something bigger once I've done my DAS.

I noticed there are a lot of bikers that seem to meet over near park royal (west London), anyone from these forums attend those meets?

Why? I'm genuinely interested in the attraction of spending £4000 on a bike just to slap L plates on it.

Maybe because it's a cool looking bike, and it's their money to do with as they wish. I'd have never wanted a CG/YBR/CBF they look shite compared. Some choices you make when you're younger are not based on logic - quite right too.

To pre-emptively clarify, it's specifically because it's an aspirational bike that's puzzling me. And the OP isn't a kiddy, he's at least 20.

I can't see the attraction in spunking £4000 on a new L bike that'll depreciate by the same amount as as the cost of a DAS course the second you rub your groin on it, or worse, drop it.

It just makes so much more sense to spend £600 or so on get a license to ride the bike that you really want, rather than the junior version of it.

Im 27, so I could have quite easily done my DAS, and got the bike I really wanted; but this is the first time ive ridden a bike and I dont think getting a bigger bike would have been a good choice for me. I bought the bike as a learner bike, to get some experience on 2 wheels; im probably more likley to stack this one, which id rather do than stack my dream bike. Cost didnt really come into the equation.

Dont attend those meets, im a little far out in Kent, but nice choice of bike.

Personally as I am now... I wouldn't want to buy 4k worth of 125 and drop it... especially with those plastics, but back when I wanted to get my first bike, I was in the same mindset as you, wanted a nice looking "sports" bike Laughing So fair play for stumping up the cash and getting one.

If you are ever near Kent, come show me this new bike, would love to actually see one of those Thumbs Up
