hi all, roughly how much will cost to change the fork oil? I know it depends on the garage, etc etc, but roughly (i'm in london btw).

And what shoulg I be expecting to need changing with that? Do you normally change the fork seals as well?

Thanks.

If you've got right way up forks about £10 for some fork oil maybe £5 for a syringe and some hose to get the level right and about 2 hours of your time.

I'm not really good with mechanics, plus I haven't got the tools etc etc.

By the way, it's a Honda Hornet 600cc '04.

It all now depends on who does the job for you.
A dealer will take a bundle, but if you have any mates who can do it for you, or a back street bike garage, it could come between anything from £10 to £30.
Good luck mate.

Suspension 'specialists' can charge upwards of over £200 from what I have heard.

The main thing is getting the forks out,but I have heard of some dealers syringing the old oil out then just adding new stuff on top so as to get the oil level correct.

But for a proper job the forks need to be flushed through with some sub-standard stuff so as ot help flush out any contamination, then replace the old with the new up to the required level.A Haynes manual will be a good investment now,so saving yourself loads of money at a later date.

So I havn't change fork oil at least 10 year!!!

^^^

There is a need to change fork oil.

It degrades over time losing it's damping abilities. On top of that, it gets filled with grime, goes black and smells of cat piss.

Change your fork oil Laughing !

Agreed - it affects performance, the greater the bike, the more so. Might away with nonexistent oil changes on small bikes but probably not yours. This time, would recommend, removing front wheel, then remove fork legs, take to garage for renewal of fork oil, to save yourself a half hour or so of garage labour charges. If you're so inclined, consider doing whole job yourself next time - you'll have learnt the easy part of dismantling wheel from forks and fork legs from frame, just need to learn harder task of dismantling fork legs themselves.
