Have you ever crashed?

I wouldn't call it a 'crash' but a few weeks ago during the snow I came off about 10mph turning into a driveway. Embarassed

Yes. Binned my scooter at about 30mph on gravel. Not nice at all, good job I had my leather jacket on. Only had thin(ish) trousers on though so my leg took a bit of a battering.

Yes, on my DT50 when I was sixteen.

Coming back from my mates house, no offical training back then (not like the wonderful CBT course you get now of course! Rolling Eyes ) and I got to a right hand bend and was on the very left hand side of the road, on the gravel and marbles.

Off I skated, onto the verge and the bike flipped up and landed on my leg. As it was onto grass it wasn't that painful, even my leg was only bruised. But I was quite shaken as I had been quite happily trundling along before it all unfolded! Smile

Scary part was the the eight foot ditch beside the verge that I ended on the edge of.

Twisted the forks slightly and kinked the rear end of the bike a little in the process too.

Not keen on doing it again, especially now I'm on a bigger bike. Shocked

In Nothern Ireland you don't need the CBT, you just get your insurance and away you go! Maybe thats why so many moped riders end up crashing though.

Yep 5 times in total.

1. On my Gilera DNA 50cc going down hill at about 40mph with a ZX9R on front of me. Bloke in front of him decides to do a U-Turn without checking behind him first. Bloke on ZX9R broke in time I didn't!!! Managed to move slightly to the right of him and smaked just abovwe my knee on his exhaust. Had a few cuts and bruises and one BIG round bruise caused by his exhaust. Told by doctors that had it hit my knee it wouldv'e been a lot worse.

2. Knocked off at round about by a woman in a red car who decided to change lanes without indicating or checking her mirrors.
Scratched my bike and my body on that one. She waved to say sorry and drove off.

3. T-Boned a car that pulled out in front of me without checking his mirrors or indicating and I was doing about 45mph. Bloody hurt and was very lucky I wasn't going faster.

4. Went to pull right out of a junction with very low visibility to the right and has I had a quick look left I turned back to see a car screeching towards me. I instantly slammed the break which caused me to drop the bike on its side. And he managed to stop about half a foot away from me. Turned out he was doing about 60mph down this 30mph road. No damaged just a bit shitted up!!!

5. Went into the Back of Luke's NSR at BoxHill when he decided to do a stoppy in front of me, at the entrance to the overspill car park.
No damage to either bike. Embarassed Embarassed

Remember that one Luke??? Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Mike.

Twice

Last time was on my old Faser, a guy who it turned out played for QPR pulled out of a petrol station on the North Circular. I saw him late, braked and as it was damp and I was on the white lines, skidded into his car. I dived off at the last moment and landed OK. The bike ended up under his car and had £3,000 worth of damage. I got my uninsured losses!

First time when I was a scooter boy, mid-July on Tottenham Court Road. A Mercedes (of course) was phaffing about in front of me, I did a life saver to go round him and he just stopped dead! Whack! As I was late home I was not wearing any protection and my knees took the full force at 15 mph on the front of the scooter. The pain was intense, and the bike was rather knackered!

The others where all there fault! Bloody

Well my last one was nearly a year ago and it involved me on my blade hitting the side of a car which decided to do a U turn in front on me without looking and it broke both my arms (left required surgery), 3 ribs and my nose.

The bike was a total write off and I still haven't got full movement in my arms and I don't really like riding bikes on the road anymore because of it.

Twice.
Once at 50mph on the M25, I was caught out by a van braking hard in front of me, so I slammed on the anchors. The wheel locked but I released it on time. I fed in a bit more brake and the wheel locked again. I assume the road was strewn with diesel. It was a new road surface so that might explain it too. All I can say is thank god for crash mushrooms!

Secondly, a pedestrian stepped out in front of me and missed my mirror by a fraction of an inch. however she was not looking and effectively stepped into the side of my bike. the peg caught her ankle and flipped her into the air.

She was OK though, just a scratch and the police fixed the blame on her.

Twice: 1) low speed slide on first time in rain, broke heavily on white lines as filtering at a junction no damage to me except pure embarrassment from all those who saw the occasion.

2) Going straight on at a junction, driver turning right across my path decided he didn't see me after initially stopping. He then tried to get ahead of me when I was approximately 3 yards away from his car. Bike wrote off I tore cartilage and ligaments in my knee as well as something else rather more painful Confused.

Hi,

I haven't actually crashed yet, but came very close last week.

Basically, I was coming home from work about 7:30, which means coming through town. Anyway, a car turns left to I nip past it on the right into the middle of the road. After overtaking I move back on to the left. So, this old lady must have started to cross the road at a set of lights in between a large van and another car. Meaning I can't see her. By the time I'm near the lights I'm going 30mph. So, at the last minute I see her crossing, so I slam on the brakes which causes the rear wheel to lock and it starts to sidewide. I just manage to stop about 5 feet away from her. And she just looked at me and carried on! Then the bloke across the road gave me a foul look as if to say it was my fault. Well, it would have been if the woman hadn't been crossing whilst the lights were green! Had she bothered to press the button and wait, it would have stopped me from nearly hitting her and not scare the living shit out of me!

Cheers,

Will

It would of been your fault, riding without due care and attention.
