anyone happen to know what size the bearings are for taper rollers?
do they need seals?
Plan to get them from local bearing shop rather than a motorcycle place. |
TIP:
Dave Silvers do Taper-Roller kits; they are about £25; they fit; they come with upper and lower seals, and make the job nice and easy and hassle free.
If you go on e-bay; you can get taper bearing kits for about £15 +p&p.
If you c an get dimensions, and go to a bearing stockist, you might get the bearings seperately for perhaps £5/6 each.
I have done, on different bikes all three. And yes, savings going e-bay or local bearing supplier can look worth while.
BUT saving is, in reality bog all. At best its £15..... e-bay or stockist, lack of top and bottom seals means messing around trying to salvage old ones or loose savings sourcing them seperately; risk buying e-bay kit or loose bearings is that they are a tad too tall for stem length meaning grinding down lock nuts or stuff..... and possibly petrol to find and fetch, and hassle either way.....
For such a small saving, and for a first timer / ameteur on the job; that extra tenner to get 'the bit for the job' with confidence its a hassle free fit, with come back on reputable supplier if it ent, is worth that small saving. DIYing it, you are saving big money over sending it to a pro, ANYWAY. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
