OK, having a look at a VFR tommorrow morning, thanks G and Maurice for the help so far.

This is my list so far; (below)

Anything else I need to check? I bet i've missed something. Thanks Smile

--

V5 -

Engine Number

Frame Number

--

Crash Damage?

Radiator - any dents? 2 radiators to check

Clip Ons- (bars to put hands on, clip onto forks, check straightness)

Oil Sump Bolt, Drilled? (right hand engine casing) drilled = race bike

Rearsets (footpegs, check for straigtness, if not plastic probably replaced)

Forks, are they straight, do they have any notches?

Wheels, dings in rim? fixable cheaply

Engine - Is it straight?

Fairing brackets - Straight?

--

Wear?

Brakes, do they stick?

Chain and sprokets, corrosion or damage?

Swingarm - any play is expensive, non adjustable

Fan - Check it works!

Regulator/Rectifier - was a heal point on early models. If the unit itself or its wiring are

running hot, or if the battery is overcharging (i.e. more than 15.5V@5,000rpm) (£50) Lights

should brighten wheb reved

Shock, does it bounce back right? check leakage and the linkages for any binding or

creaking.

Lights / Horn / Fuel Gauge / Temp Gauge - Do they all work?

Clocks, are they reading correctly, is the mileage straight?

--

Notes

cam drive gears always whine

Restriction - have a look at the ignition unit, just ahead of the rear lights under the seat

hump, and see if it has a small black box plugged in in series with it.

With the forks, check that they compess smoothly, and check it after you test ride for any leaking oil.

Check the wheel bearings and head bearings.

Oh yeah, check the gearbox. Neutral

The bike can be de-restricted in a number of places, including a plug-in box on the cdi, a plug-in behind the clocks, an mph-kph converter or by bending the tab within the clocks. You can check for everything apart from the tab in the clocks, to test that you'll need to get past 112mph on the test ride Wink Though saying that, mine wasn't bent far enough back so it kicks in at an indicated 130 Rolling Eyes.

If you haven't already https://www.hpicheck.com/
Also sounds silly but, check the finish, if its got pitted forks and rusty underside then its obviously not been looked after, if the outside is mess then chances are so is the inside...

Check around for any rounded off nuts, especially the oil drain one. one of these can be more trouble than a pack of hungry gorillas.

What ever you find wrong use as an excuse to knock him down a couple of quid, when i bought my Z i knocked the guy from 375 Arrow 200 because it had no chain guard and and the rev counter was bust, rofl!
