Checking Oil

Just wondering if you screw the dipstick back in or just dip it in when you are checking your oil after you have wiped the oil of it once you removed it the first time?

My oil always seems to be between the marks when I just put it back in (without screwing it right in) which got me wondering that it might have too much oil in it (previous owner Rolling Eyes

) if it was screwed right in fully.

So, do you screw it right it or just dip it ?

Much easier if you have 1 with a oil looking window. Confused

I believe the correct procedure is given in the name: 'dipstick' not 'screwstick' Laughing

I was always taught to dip it in, I believe the screw is to just stop it coming loose when moving.

My manual says not to screw it in, that is for an xt600e though

They all differ.

CBR125 says screw in.
GT125 says dont screw in.
GSXR had a sight window Laughing

I just tilt the bike upright and check the filly-uppy-guagey thing (technical jargon there, apologies).

Check the manual if you have one.

Also make sure the bike is perfectly vertical.
