A jaffa cake
I'd love one, but I'm way too bothered by the horror stories. In fact, I'd have a blade before an RSV.
If its a "fun" bike, not your daily workhorse... i'd say go for it.. |

Second cousin had one, he liked it but to be honest I think the torque might have been a bit much for him after a 600 SRAD, he has an R6 now which he likes a lot more. Sold it eventually because the electrics were always going wrong.
Really fancy a Falco myself for an all rounder ____________________ Triumph Daytona 675 track bike + girlfriend's Honda Hornet 600

Also worth noting, whilst I can't comment on the RSV directly, the electrical woes were completely sortable on the Futura, it mostly involved replacing a couple of blocks, beefing up certain insulation and making a little drain hole in an outer sleeve on a section under the front cylinder.
Personally I'd have a Tuono, Falco or another Futura in a heartbeat, just need to work on the spare money situation ____________________ 2010 Triumph 1050 Sprint ST |

I think they're very underrated bikes.
Plenty of the horror stories you'll hear are from people who's brother's, mate's, dad once had one. Like Paddy. Not knocking you, but you've not owned one and are going on the experience of another on a slightly different bike. I've owned a 2002 base model, Angelgrinder has a 2001 Base model IIRC.
The motor will be fine. It's a rotax unit and prety much bullet proof. Electrics can be a bit dodgey, check all the buttons work on the clocks. The big weak point on them is the starting system. The standard 12Ah battery isn't man enough for the job and if you try and turn it over on a weak battery is can knacker the starter clutch.
Aside from that, the rear brake doesn't work at all well and lots of the small fixings will dissolve.
All that said they're not called the Japanese Ducati for nothing and plenty of people have done massive commuting and touring mileage with no issues. I had no issues with mine, but it was used as a toy.

I adore mine - 3.5k in about 4 months. Ahem. Only issue I've ever had is after leaving it standing for a week - didn't want to start. Now she is kept on a trickle charger if I'm not going to be riding her for a bit.
Do it - with the engine braking, you'll never need to buy brake pads again ____________________ Rides: '91 CG125 (Sold), '00 CB500S (Sold), '97 Thundercat (Sold), '99 KTM EXC 300 (SOLD), '99 RSV Mille (stolen. Loving mine still, had it 11months, with only 2 problems, one was the speedo sensor failing on the M25, so the speedo read 0mph... mildy annoying but not a huge problem, got a replacement sensor off the forums for £20 and it took less than 5minutes to change.
2nd problem I had was the brakes failing on a trackday, but that's more my fault I havn't given it any new brake fluid, and didn't check with the previous owner when they'd last been done, so probably just cooked some old fluid!
As mentioned they take alot of juice to start, just keep it on optimate if not using it for more than 2 days and no problems!
Still loving it, did 4 trackdays this year, all without fault (except the brakes on my last one) was a bit 'fun' in the wet, the engine braking really is the hardest thing to get used to when hooning round a track, but it's a big plus on the road! ____________________ Currently Riding - 2002 Aprilia RSV1000 Mille |
