Been riding 125s for a fair few years now, after my 4th (!) CBT I decided it was time to ditch the L plates (I commute 80 miles a day and the 125 is getting a bit tiring), I've already been knocked off a CG125 once before (a 4x4 pulled out on me, writing the bike off and breaking some bones, luckily there were witnesses and it was an open & shut case, but it shook my confidence a bit and I stayed off bikes for a year before deciding a car and/or train was just a PITA), so I took the Mod1 test two weeks ago and got zero minors, did mod2 on Thursday and passed with 1 minor, well chuffed, now looking for something cheap and cheerful, almost went with an SV650 but now leaning towards an ER6F - although I'll probably get an ER5 and ride that for 6~12 months before getting something nicer (I'd be sick dropping a nice shiny faired bike!)

Cheers Smile I thought I'd fluffed it because I missed a turning on the independent ride "You've missed your turning, you've missed your turning!" came over the ear piece, I felt a right wally and thought I'd get marked down for it, but he gave me new directions and we carried on - I put it out of my mind and concentrated on the rest of the ride and it was all good Smile

Well done for passing. But well done on getting hurt on the road and coming back to it. Takes a lot of guts! Safe riding! Thumbs Up

Nice work.

The ER5 isn't a bad little bike and an option for me to get used to riding before getting a more expensive bike.

For spring 2013 I shall have a Street Triple R. That's my plan.

I thought I'd failed in my test on Friday when a car decided to pull out on me at a mini roundabout. She was stopped waiting for me, or so it seemed as we had eye contact, not bad looking, then she decided to go as I entered the roundabout. I broke, she did also, I continued and was thinking does that constitute a fail? I put it out of my mind and rode.

I enjoyed the independent riding the most, 10 mins or so of peace and bloody quiet in my ear Very Happy. I would much rather most of the test had been that.

Amusingly the insurance company sent me a loan bike despite the fact I couldn't physically ride one! They sheepishly collected it and lent me an automatic Smart car instead which was quite handy.
I think it teaches you a lot more respect for riding a bike though, I wouldn't say I'm over cautious now but far more aware of how bad some drivers can be.

I know someone who is in his late 50s and is still on L plates despite having had a bike since he was 16 - he's irrationally terrified of the theory test and so won't take it any further (if he'd taken the test when he was younger they would've probably given him his licence for riding around the block!) - he must hold the actual record I'd say!!

CB500s are better in every measurable way and only a few magic beans more expensive. Having said that, I haven't ridden an ER5 since my DAS but I do have fond, if slightly rose tinted memories of them.

Yeah I've heard similar from a few folks now, TBH I'll probably just snap up the first cheapy 500 I see, just to get through the colder months on and gain some big bike experience, then get something nice(r) in late spring. After my Chinese 125 the ER5 felt like like a luxury sports bike! I'd imagine that feeling will wear off pretty quickly though Smile

Picked up a 52 plate ER5 today, nothing fancy but has new tyres and givi box (minus the locking mechanism, need to hunt one own, it's ok for transporting my lunch to work in though!), going to buy a screen for it too, most of my ride is sat on a13 so wind blast will be a factor. Been out for a run on it tonight, was quite good fun Smile

Did he not point out before the test it's fine to go the wrong way by accident also as your actions are always safe and legal?

Congrats by the way.

You want one of these - power aplenty, handles like a mountain bike, 0-60 in less than 4 seconds. You'll soon be bored with anything less.

I do so love whoring my bike. These were taken the day I got it. The chicken strips are almost non-existent now.

If we're whoring our hornets...

My first big bike after my test was this, my dad loaned it to me for a couple of weeks until the deal went through for my next...

Deal gone through... Had one of these.

However sold that now, and currently riding the best yet.

Nice looking bikes!
I'm enjoying my ER5 but not at speed, it's great around town and up to 60, after that the wind blast is really quite uncomfortable. I've ordered a screen for it (the tallest I could find) in a bid to alleviate this!
