Hi guys,

I have a 3 cylinder 1200cc 2 stroke engine in a jetski.
Im looking at converting the regulator pack and the old CDI to something more up to date, more reliable and easier to program.
I do have all relevant wiring diagrams and timing data to hand if that helps.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Johnny

Easier to program?! Dont know what kind of CDI ignition system you got there, but all the ones I have ever worked on are pretty much 'fixed' contactorless affairs.

However; never tried them, but for custom ignitions on unusual two strokes, these people have been reccomended to me a few times by different people, doing silly stuff with old eccentric trials iron.

Its been 'done'. They are about 400cc a pot, and comprably in an incredibly low state of tune. Most 'successful' one I read about used a polaris Skidoo engine, an 800cc twin, becouse that made it eligible for two-stroke twin class in drag racing; and was adapted from an engine re-engineered to fit in a wasp side-car cross chassis.

Biggest hassle was that for skidoo they have a variator belt transmission, like a scooter, which had to be 'dumped', the jet-ski engines have no transmission what-so ever, they have a big centrifugal water-pump on the end of the crank.... so to power a bike, thing had to be grafted to a pair of GSXR crank-cases to provide a gear-box..... THEN for all the big displacement, dont actually provide huge amount of power from it; tuned almost as a fixed speed engine, make about 30bhp a pot....

For the side-car-cross outfit; believe it had to be seriousely re-ported to get 90bhp from it, which sounds pretty good, but compared to what they were getting from tuned RD350 lumps or full TZ race motors, not all that impressive... its about what a 'stock' TZ250 proddy GPbike was making, fifteen twenty years ago.... lots of low down 'torque' though......

For those few moments the dream was nice Smile
along came Teff with his needle of logic and popped my balloon Crying or Very sad

I wondered why it was`nt more common?
I know that one of the quad/buggy makers use a 400cc two-smoke triple engine Smile
Wonder if they nicked the design from Kawasaki?
