 |
|
To cut a long story short i have been put in the position of helping a family member out.
Basically person A signs a large finance agreement for a '10 plate Fireblade, after 3 weeks the relationship goes tits up and i end up with the bike parked at mine.
Now, the dealer has offered to buy the bike back, but that would mean person A still owes 2k on the agreement.
I have been asked to try to sell it and keep her losses to a minimum.
The bike owes her 8k, i've looked on ebay, etc etc but the prices seem to be all over the place tbh.
Its done just under 5k miles, its in hrc colours and is in tidy condition. Standard apart from an r+g tail tidy.
Thanks for any input.

If the bike is on a finance agreement, and it's not on a bank loan, then technically she can't sell it before it's paid off as it's not hers to sell. ____________________ Greetings from Shitsville! |

Cheers guys, i was thinking about 7k, thanks for your input.
Whatever happens she is going to lose out on it - shame i dont want it really.
I rode it yesterday, and i can confirm that there is a hell of a difference between a 50bhp 650 single and 160bhp inline 4.. |

It's bad enough that you're trying to sell it with a different name and address to the V5, you'll also need to see what an HPI check will say about it.
You'll want to take a good look at the "finance agreement" and see who actually owns the bike. I'd expect that you'll find that it's actually owned by the finance company. If so, you're two degrees removed from having title to sell it. The dealer is essentially an unrelated party.
Personally I wouldn't touch it, because even if you give the money to Person A, and even if she passes it on to the actual owner, if it's so much as a short then it's still the finance company's bike and they can come and take possession whenever they feel like it.
So, take a good look at the finance contract. You may find that your Person A can just walk away from the deal and the company takes their bike back.
If it turns out that she owes £8K or so outright, and doesn't have title to the bike, and can't clear the debt by returning possession, then you'd have to question whether that would pass the "LOLWUT?" test if she offered to see them in court.
Either way, don't take her word on it, read what you're getting involved with. And be a bit careful about dealing in a bike that neither you, nor the dealer, nor Person A actually has title to. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Lolwut? But the finance agreement is in her name? Sounds like you're three degrees away from having title. Sorry, I don't mean to criticise, I'm just working through what a sensible buyer would ask: you'll want to have your answers and documentation straight, simple and in order.
beatnck2 wrote: | I have spoken to the finance company this morning. They are willing to remove the hpi from the bike so it can be sold |
I don't know what that means, other than that they might be agreeing to make the debt unsecured. Even so, it's still their bike and the potential purchaser will essentially be buying it from them, not you, Person A or Mystery Partner B.
Did you ask them what would happen if Person A just told them to take a long ride off a short pier? If the debt is secured on the bike, they'd be expected to take possession first to reduce the debt. Have they said how much they'd write down if they repossessed it? You may want to compare that to what you'll get for a bike in late October with a story attached to it.

Mmm, I hope so. It'll certainly be an expensive one. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
