Got a phone call from swinton yesterday (who my bike insurance is with) offering free life insurance for 3 months then pittance after that so i proceeded to listen to the blurb even though I wasn't that interested.

I was fine up to the point when I was told it wouldn't cover Bungee jumping, skydiving or motorbikes.

Might have lost my temper a bit then due to them phoning me knowing I have bike insurance and putting Biking in the same bracket as dangerous sports.

Rant over

I had the same phone call from them the other night, the guy was so pushy down the phone even getting to the point of asking for my direct debit details when I hadnt even agreed to anything.

I told him he was a pushy prick and hung up. The funny thing is I was interested and would probably have signed up to it if he hadnt been so pushy. Middle Finger

I wasn't interested at all but as you said he was pushy so i let him waffle on.

When he stuck bikes in the same bracket as Skydiving and Bungee Jumping I told him where to go.

Glad the call was recorded for training purposes!

They must be stupid. Who in their right mind would go bungee jumping or skydiving on a motorbike?

Especially two up into a valley rather than off a plane?

I don't see basic skydiving or bungee jumping as particularly risky myself either.
Base jumping (especially said jump above where I think he got a bit messed up) I appreciate is certainly reducing the margin for error rather a lot.

Heh, I love those calls. Nobs to all of them, they're no better than chuggers.

I used to answer with "I am also recording this unsolicited call. My rates for handling it are £35 for the first 5 minutes and £5 for each additional minute. If you agree to those terms, continue talking."

Recently though, I think it's more fun to put the phone down gently and just make "Uh huh" and "Go on" noises in the direction of the mic until I've noticed that they've gone quiet, then pick it up and say "Oh, I wasn't really listening, can you start from the beginning?" Laughing

Pro tip: if you just hang up suddenly without saying yes or no, you'll get another robodial the next day, for at least a week. I reckon I've tied up Swinton telesales drones for at least half an hour over the past couple of weeks: you're welcome. Wink

On the life insurance, if they want a really high risk activity to refuse to cover, most people die in bed.

You missed a golden opportunity to employ the use of counterscript.
