I've got some projects that I'm currently involved in making a seat for one of my k100, plus side pannels and a rack. Also doing some other diy custom seats. Now I was wondering anyone able to help on what thickness metal I'd be best getting. I was going to order a large sheet that I can put in the garage and cut pieces off be cheaper than getting smaller offcuts.

Are the diy custom seats going to be bicycle saddle style?

Half inch (12mm)plate doesn’t bend. No one wants a bendy chair

I assume seat base?

About 1mm. Less and you need to flare/bead it to maintain strength. More and it's a pig to shape.

What makes you think sheet metal is the best material for a seat, side panels and a rack?

What tools do you have access to, and what type of metal are you after?

Also what metal?

3mm of steel isn't close to 3mm of tin.

No kidding, He needs 18 or 20g for the side panels & bike seat, round or square tube & maybe flat bar for the rack...
