Hi guys,
After failing my Mod2 for the second time, and with the insurance on my 50 ending soon i've decided to get a 125 so i can get used to riding, save on test fees and get to college much faster.

Ive seen this advertised locally, and have contacted the guy to arrange a viewing on Monday, and just wondered if anyone has any hints about what to look for, apart from the the twisted sub-frame of course Wink

https://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/honda-cbr-125r/89960535

He's said the lowest he'd take is £850, which i'm happy with (as long as the bike is in good condition)

Any advice would be appreciated,
Thanks Thumbs Up

I'm hoping that you've done the mod1 on a hired 125? Otherwise you're going to have to redo it on an accepted 125 if you want to get the A2 license (they must both be done on the same category of bike too IIRC)

The cbr125r4 works for the a2 test, I know because that's what I used for mine, so the 125r6 should have no troubles with the power side of things.

I paid £800 for my 2004 (bit of fairing damage, good engine) so I'm thinking £850 is quite a good price if the bike's in the condition he's saying. A good condition cbr125 2006 should be fetching that £1000 quite easily, so I'd be a little wary there (don't rush in because it's a good deal), but perhaps he's lowering the price because he's just itching to get onto a faster bike and wants the sale.

Personally I think the cbr125 is a great little bike. If you're not rev shy then you've got enough of overtaking power from 40/50mph, which isn't bad for a 125 in my opinion. You'll pay more on the insurance though compared to something like a cg125.
A downside is that if you're a tall guy like myself then you'll look like a bit of a clown on it as I do Laughing

As for what to look for, this thread is a good help: https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=231493
Points out the basics like HPI check, test ride, Etc.

Edit:
Although on the flip side, how confident are you about your mod2? If you can pass it next time then I think it'd be worth just hiring the bike again because then you'll be allowed to get a 33bhp bike. But if you're not upto something bigger then a 125 would be a good middle bike.

That's a good price for an honest bike, you'll make a profit in the spring.
