Hey bikers,

I'm Liam from penistone to be precise, looking to get a bike for commuting to uni and back and for abit of project work. Passed cbt so will be my first bike, means i have a lot to learn

Looking to make a survival/ industral looking bike as i could never hope for it to be always clean so its going to be ready for all weathers still need the starting bike first looked at the rv125 and the honda varadero to start with.

Im a student so all has to be done with as little money spent as possible.

Any advice would be appreciated and as i am still on the look out for one and tips or help finding one for cheap would greatly help my cause

Thanks for the welcome Smile

Currently looking for a 125 bike bare minimum as long as its road legal. The looks aren't a big thing as it with be ratted over time as its being used for commuting I would be a fool to try keep it all polished up, it will be my work horse. I'm on a very tight budget with being a student, so even if someone can point me in the direction of a really cheap bike it would be greatly appreciated. Any tips, hits, words of advice or even just a hello would be nice

Liam

Gumtree, ebay, shop windows, papers. Whatevs. If you want a Madmax bike you won't be spending too much at the end of the day anyway.

I'm pretty much like that myself. I just wanted a bike. Any 500cc bike. So I found a VF500 on eBay going cheaps. Bought it, then found out it's apparently a classic. It sounds like a golf ball being thrown around a metal dustbin, smells like a science class Flammables cupboard and looks like.. Well, it looks like a VF500 to be fair. But I don't feel like I need to worry about it so much.

I find a lot of people on here will say "Spend a bit more, it'll be worth it." Which all makes perfect logical sense, until the point where you don't have 'a bit more' to spend in the first place.

Unfortunately you can't go full on mad max and get a dirt bike on a limited budget. Small used ones can still fetch close to a grand because.. I don't know why. But they do. Plus rule of thumb is that standard road bikes are cheaper to insure.

So I'd suggest looking straight for older Hondas and Yamahas. They seem to be generally the cheapest used bikes on the market atm.

And don't forget, there are always scooters. (:
Though they look dumb and reliable ones are often more expensive than same sized geared bikes.. Maybe nevermind on the scooters then.

Hi Liam. I'd spend my money on something like an MZ ETZ, it's so ugly bike thieves are too embarrassed to to be seen with one but it's a solid, reliable and very cheap bike.

I have to say, I think that's actually quite a nice little looking bike.

i had the same idea, then i found if you get an early 90s CG125 thier around 400-500£, with 100-300£ insurance.... so go figure its cheaper to get on the road and a year of insurance then a newer biek.. and did i mention their reliable and as fast as a new ybr.
