Hello I ride a trike with a BMW R100t engine .
The engine starts Ok first time.
Tick over is Ok.
When the engine gets up to working temperture the rev counters hoovers around 2 to 3000 Revs, With the throttle fully off.

Any advise would be helpful.

Many thanks.

are you running the original bing carbs??

any way my guess is that you have an air leak, either pre or post carbs,
with the engine running spray some wd40/crc etc around the carb area, if the revs change then its definitly an air leak,

but it may be that use just need to adjust your idle, or that your choke circuit is sticking

Faulty auto advance only happens when the engine is warm, its located in a small can under the front engine cover below the crank (mechical advance arms and hall sensor). dont bother trying to lube the arms just replace it or send it off to the likes of motobins for repair.

I,ve just replaced mine with a enduralast eletronic system before such a thing happned to mine.

Hello I'm back I have Fitted new hose connections from the head to the carbs/ Fitted new ' O' Seals to the air mixture,
What I have now discovered is that it's only the one Carburetor causing the problem, When the engine gets hot the Engine revs high,
When I put a cloth over the end of the open cab the Revs reduce to normal and then increase when I remove the cloth. I am lost what to do.

Help PLease. Question Question Question

I,ve already told you what the problem is 99% likely to be, There is nothing wrong with the carbs and you are wasting your time playing around with them.

I,ve done over 100kkm on R100,s and currently riding one around Morocco and l know the 2-valve boxer engines like the back of my hand, your auto advance unit is faulty.

If Engine is running points its a earlier pre-1980 /7 engine (opps missed the "t" on r100) but the issue is the same that the ignition is not being advanced. either try adjustment or a overhaul of the unit, l believe the points cams need lubing on theses ones and can stick unlike later canister type it can be lubed.

The old style points on the /7 have a helocopter blade looking thing poking out the front. It has little sprung fold out bits, check these for free movement.

Motobins and motorworks will carry the bits to get it sorted.

A little check you can try is to remove the tops off the carbs and check the diaphragms, I had the R80rt and had a similar problem, it cured it for me, as one of the diaphragms was goosed.
Good luck mate.

Hello I would just like to say many thanks for all the advise i was given, Engine now running sweet and tidy.

It was the advance behind the points that was causing the issue, Reason I left this until last did not feel confident to repair also my manual for the BMW does not show these weights either so I was totally confused.

At last back on the road many thanks again.
