Evening All,

Could someone tell me if the "Hi Beam" and "Standard Beam" use different bulbs?

My standard beam seems to have stopped working, i switch the lights on to the first setting and get a small dim light (which seems the norm for that setting). When I move switch to last setting (main standard beam) - I still only get the dim light (no change) - however when I put my Hi Beam on, this works fine, but I don't want to go about blinding people.
It looks to be a total pain to get into the headlight area. As far as I can see though there are only two bulbs though. Does the standard beam use a seperate bulb from the High beam?
It's an RF600.
Thanks

The majority of modern bikes use dual filament bulbs.
My Bandit, and I believe the RF600, both use H4 bulbs...

If both fail to light then you could just have a fuse blown.

As said, most bikes use a H4 dual filament

That would make sense then, if it's the same bulb used for both High and standard beam.
So it's possible for one of the fillaments of thee bulb to fail then, leaving one working? I always thought bulbs were all or nothing but guess not.
New bulb on order me thinks, and now to figure out how the hell to get into thr casing!

The main beam was still working on the Bandit when the dipped beam failed recently, so yes it can still work with only one filament.

...and if you're anywhere near me, I'd be happy to lend a hand

The 'dim' light may well be the 5 watt pilot light, whereas the QH (Quartz-halogen) bulb is the three pronged main bulb.Quite often there is a seperate 10 amp fuse for the 'Lighting' of the bike.

These QH bulbs are readily available from places like Halfreuds, where they are quite expensive.

Cheers all,

I managed to get access to the main bulb, but with great difficulty, took off a few small panels but gives me very limited access. Easy enough to get the bulb out, but the big pain in the erse is getting the small metal lockbar type thing back in place to secure the whole bulb part once it's back in place.
Now to get a bulb and do all that again.. - anyone want to make a few quid...for a spare? Smile
