At least with bad weather, quads will slide - it's the good weather they flip over on top of you .
I think I'd put the time and money into learning to ride. Maybe do some off-roading if you can.
Consider getting a spare set of wheels for your current bike and some studs for the tyres, for the worst conditions. |

Trust Me I have a car and a Landrover I'm not rich I spent my life savings on a land rover and doing it up and my grandad gave me his OLD golf. I've justified it as I don't want you to think I'm a brat haha. Believe me on classic insurance and anything and everything there's nothing for less than 3k. Ive tried mates cars family cars there's nothing cheap. I'm the biggest hypocrit as I rip the @?£" out of quads haha but it's the only four wheeled option. Im not converting but I can pick my mate up and take him college if he can't get his bike out. Its a practical option shame that it's come to this. |

Quads are f*cking hilarious in the snow and ice. Honda Foreman 500, leave it in RWD and give it the beans
Seriously though, worth it for the couple of weeks of snow we'll have? Nah, didn't think so.
Our quad is taxed for 'farm use'. I can still ride it on my bike insurance though ____________________ Triumph Daytona 675 track bike + girlfriend's Honda Hornet 600

Was just gonna say, the only reason I would get a quad is for when it snows.
I'd just go for a blast with like MX gear and waterproofs on, up hills ect ect... might even give people lifts
It would be effort though insuring a Quad for what .. 3 days a year lol, not like the Police are going to take chase!..

I can imagine the fun I could do with a car as I have so many family errands to run and the fact that I can help friends out or take pretty ladies out with me is ace but I could suffice with a quad I think until my bike test is done. I will need it in the snow but I'm a real tight-arse and I'de use it every day if it has been paid for |

Have done similar (crazy) rides over the last few winters. That said, i was hoping never to have to do it again with a risk of falling over any second, hence wanting to know whether studded tyres are as awesome as suggested. ____________________ -- Ingah |

With fresh snow like that the studs would make no difference.
However, I did go out later that night on the KTM with the aforementioned MT21 trail tyres and it performed 'acceptably'.
A later day, collection sled-making essentials -
