Along the A13 coming onto the Pitsea flyover, whilst filtering a car had just moved out of my way, so I foot waved him and approached the next vehicle (van in left lane) - as I came up to it the van indicated and swung over (no pause between indicator coming on and van swinging over), I was about 15~20mph faster and my front wheel was almost level with the rear of his van - grabbed a handful/bootful of brake and actually heard my front wheel screech as it locked up, luckily I came off the front brake immediately and avoided binning it - there was also a gap to my right (barely a car's length, he was planning to push into a teeny gap!) that I moved over into , at this moment the van driver clearly noticed me as he darted back in again - had he not I would've been in the side of him for sure. I've been filtering for years on my 125 (I commute 80 miles a day), so it's not a new thing for me, but this was certainly a wake up call - reminds you how quickly something can go wrong.

Dangerous stretch of road there, quite a few accidents happen there I think. Couple that with the Pitsea and Basildon drivers! Haha. Glad you're okay though. I look forward to tackeling the A13 when I get on the road.

A13= be prepared to take evasive action at any time. Surprised
I use it on a daily basis and am never surprised by some of the antics I see, but I have to admit from Canning Town onwards heading East, most car drivers move over to allow bikes to filter between lanes 2 & 3, they all expect it and give you plenty of room, you just need to watch for last minute lane changes for exits. Bonus is most the cameras are forward facing so little chance of a ticket as long as you watch out for the rear facing.
