When ya pass your test are you sposed to inform your insurance company?
I guess you are but I don't want the feckers to charge me admin fees for updating records.
I'm with MCE (yea, I know, but they were the cheapest quote Laughing )

Still on a 125 so no worries on that score yet but it just crossed my mind that just maybe...they might like to be informed?

Several of the insurers say something along the line of "you must be riding within the terms of your license or must have the license that corresponds with the bike you ride"

I personally wouldn't say anything until renewal time as no doubt they will charge you an admin fee & you are certainly riding within the conditions of your license.

Ultra sensible would be to tell them so it's really upto you Thumbs Up

My insurance company at the time (Swinton) said it was a voluntary action whether or not you wanted to inform them. That said, paying 50 quid or whatever it was just to do something you needn't would be a rip off.

Cheers Gents,

I always bow to peeps with experience of such things Wink

If you have been through similar then that's OK by me mate.

I just hear things about MCE charging extortionate rates just to pick the fukin phone up these days Laughing

I'm with MCE too and phoned them yesterday for some quotes on a new bike. First thing I told them was I passed my test he just asked when. Then I got a couple of quotes, at no time did he mentioned admin fee's. So I have told them, I presume he noted it as I was getting quotes for a Street Triple and GSXR600.

Should be fine.

After I passed my test I told the insurance company, just to be safe. The guy on the phone said that it wouldn't really make any difference to the policy, I said that I knew that but just wanted to keep them up to date.

Also asked about pillion cover too, they just gave it to me for free now that my license allowed me to have pillions. Cool

No admin charge (was over the phone) and no fees to update the policy or add pillion cover. Did notice a £2-3 extra charge on my phone contract because I stupidly phoned on the mobile rather than the land line, but you live to learn heh Smile

That's with Rampdale.

If you can't do it online, then personally I wouldn't bother. It only reduces their risk. In fact, I don't bother telling insurers about points incurred during the term, since it doesn't effect the risk that they covered when the contract was agreed.

Yea.
Thanks again gents.

I can't be arsed anyways. I think I'll leave it until I change bikes.

I already have Pillion cover, for some reason it's already enabled with a tick box on my policy. Had a lil trial on some side roads today as it happens.
The Varadero is a big bike but I gotta say, I don't like the heavy feeling it has 2 up.

Still, like they say, it's all a learning experience.

I haven't told mine I have passed. Frankly I want as little contact with them as possible. I'll probably end up with a different insurer for my next bike anyways.
