Ive been training for mod1 with my training centre but their playground is too small to replicate the mod1 course as it is.
So for the high speed manouvers they say i need to hit around 20mph to be able to be fast enough to pass it on the actual test.

Well last night i had training and i literally got 18mph every single time. The instructors there had never seen anyone so consistantly hit 18mph over and over again. One instructor suggested slipping the clutch as i go around the bend and get the revs high, then release the clutch and the bike will speed up quicker.
Will i need to do this on the actual mod1 test? I did find it helped a bit

Hi Mate,
We train and teach in Glasgow and we use an area which is smaller than the Mod1 area. Our customers must reach about 25mph in our area to have a chance of completing the mod 1.

We also book ever student in for a practice on the actual test area but due to travel times this might not be possible with your training school.

I think that you might have to trust the judgement of your instructor (unless you have any other reason to doubt them.)

The instructors and training school know the requirements for the test and although it is no guarantee of success, they will aiming you for a pass with all their efforts.

Slipping the clutch might not be necessary on the test area as you'll have more room to get up to speed Smile

Address your concerns with the school and I'm sure they'll help!

Jim Thumbs Up

Just go round the bend in 2nd, its not actually measured what speed you hit round the bend.

Go round in 2nd, keep revs high, scream out of the corner and make sure you are doing 31mph+ through the cones.

I probably didn't go much faster round the bend so wouldn't worry, just get yourself prepared for coming out of the bend and up into third if need be to get that minimum speed where it matters

If my Chinese bike-in-a-box can make 53kph through the tests, then yours certainly can

I don't know what this clutch slipping tosh is all about, they're teaching you things that will just confuse you on the test.

It's not hard, just select 2nd gear, doesn't matter what speed you go round the bend, but ride towards the outside of it as fast as you can, peg it as soon as it starts to straighten (the exit is wider now), keep it pegged in 2nd all the way to the speed gate, don't change up, don't look at your speedo, don't think about your speed, job done.

There's far too much fussing over mod 1 and whether you're ready for it, just get on with it.

Also on module 1, does the examiner check your bike over? Only my tail light bulb is playing up and ive ordered some more. Basically the running light works if i tap the light casing, the brake light works fine though. Is it the law to have a constant running rear light?

Just leave your lights off. Simple.

No they dont check. A friend borrowed my CBR125 and did mod 1 and 2 with just 1 working right indicator (rear one) Laughing

Really mate, if you're paying for lessons the least they could do is have something that resembles the test center with regards size!!

Failing that, get a discount. Laughing

When you get to the test center it will be huge. At least, it was compared to what I was practicing on.

Get to the local car park and practice the maneuvers.
Least that way you would have had a go.
I practiced on a midget course (at the local car park) and when the real thing came up, like I say.

It looked fukin massive! Laughing

Don't worry to much. On the day, you will make 50 KPH as long as your bike has, at the very least, half decent acceleration.

I was leaning over as much as I could when I did the bends. I was a little worried too because it had only just stopped raining and I felt like I was pushing my luck. Came out of it okay and shot through the cones! Thumbs Up

We always practiced mod 1 in a much smaller area with much tighter cones to fit it in.

Got to the test centre and it was far far simpler due to the space

Man up? Im running a rear tyre with minimal tread in torrential rain... I haven't had it slip yet... im not exactly taking the piss though.

Just be a little more progressive with the throttle rather than going to full throttle instantly. That said you are on a heavy cruiser type bike. Good luck anyway, hope it goes well
