I'm trading in my old Hornet 600 and I actually feel sad to lose it.

This isn't the first time I've had the bike blues. Many years ago when I traded in my zxr750 back in the 90s, I had a little tear in my eye. I was genuinely moved and nothing moves me. Hell, when Bambi's mum died, I could only think how good she'd be with a nice jus. My ex-wife always said I loved my bikes more than I loved her and she might have a point...

Strangely performance or having the 'best' bike has never been a factor. I had a couple of blades and was not moved at all when I chopped one in and the other was nicked although I really liked the looks of the first one - the 'tiger' blade but in black and silver.

It's the surprising bikes that get under my skin. An ancient cbr600 back in the day trumped a nearly brand new 'blade in the 'feeling' stakes and that unmanageable, painful, cr@p handling zxr - that got to me big time.

I have the bike blues right now. I'm going to miss my old Hornet 600 with the world's ugliest aftermarket screen, scratches, too-soft suspension, annoying-as-hell tank range and buzzy power delivery. If I won the lottery I'd restore it to exactly how it should look and stick it on a pedestal but I can't.

So am I the only SoB out there who feels this way? Am I just insane? Or does anyone else out there get attached to a piece of metal and rubber?

When my CB550F1 was stolen from outside of my flat back in 1979 I was so miserable I did not want to do anything - it was like a piece of me was missing. This is the only time that I have been without a bike in 36 years.

It was almost a surreal moment when my GS was loaded onto an Egertons truck when it was seized by the police. Such an emotional moment.

I dont know about forming an attachment to a bike, but two bikes I bitterly regret selling were my old CB 125 twin (16 bhp) and my old RD 250 LC.

I had a certain amount of regret when I eventually sold the GPZ.
Bearing in mind that it was a SORN non-runner, and partially dismantled at the time... but it had been a life-long ambition to learn about and ride a bike, so it seemed to be the end of a chapter in my experience...

But looking back, it eventually presented the opportunity to get a replacement bike, and I haven't looked back since

I will always regret selling my TDR125.

Ive never seen another belgarda one and i spent so much time learning, riding and fixing that thing. ( brought it outta the back of a garage)

Sold it on to a mates, brothers, son in law....he used it for a few months then sold it to a chav who wrote it off 3 days later.

I still miss it.
