Helloo =]

I passed my bike test about 2 & a bit years ago.
I then passed my car test a month ago.
I sent my driving licence off to get updated and now it has been returned.
However, all the dates that the various vehicals are vailid from have been chaged to the date I passed my car test.
Which is fine for my car, but I passed my bike test 2 years ago!
But anyway, is this actually correct? Or should I be contacting someone?

Thankies very muchly, Carol xxxx

No, it should show the exact dates you passed each test type seperately.

You can try and get back in touch with the DVLA about it, and the best of luck, but try not to be too disappointed if they tell you there's nothing they can do now.

There was a thing not too long ago on Watchdog about people who had their bike license and they sent their whole license off for a change - passing car test or change of address etc - and they got their license back with no sign of their bike license on it. When they called, the DVLA said there's nothing they can do and they would have to retake their bike test.

As soon as you have a 'new' licence:
- First Provisional,
- Updated for new licence group
- Returned after endorsement
- Returned after change of address
DOES NOT MATTER

PHOTO-COPY IT

I actually carry a photo-copy of my licence in my wallet. I have been stopped by police & asked to show my licence, and offered them the copy, telling them its a copy..... and comment I am NOT obliged to carry original.....

{Another precaution; I dont HAVE to carry licence, so I don't. Driving licence is accepted as proof of identity by so many places, very easy if you loose your wallet for original licence to be used for identity fraud. Also easily lost, also if you offer it a copper who asks, there have been instances where they have retained it and without original, you have no reference what was on it before hand}

With a photo-copy you have evidence of what licence groups you had before any change, and some 'evidence' to be able to get any clerical errors 'corrected'.

Omg thats completely insane!
I have taken photocopies of my licence post-sending, and also my bike & car pass certificates, so hopefully I've got enough proof that I'm not going to have to go to the extreme of redoing my test!

But the correct date is on my licence paper counter part under the entitlement history.
But my car licence isnt even on there..?

ARGH. I think I'm going for a trip to the DVLA office on Monday.

ALSO, I've just noticed that my catagory fkp on both the post-car-test and after car test are valid from the day I did my bike test even though I got my provisional a year or so before doing my bike test.
Wtf?
And why is there "118" in the Codes column?!
And why is fkp not on my paper counterpart?!
And what is a catagory B1?!

Deffo trip to DVLA.

Isn't that the car?

Mike, could she not send off a photocopy of the Theory+Mod1+Mod2 certificates to say "hey look, I passed this and I passed this then. Correct it."

Needless to say, I'll be doing the photocopy thing from now on.. after I buy a printer/photocopier of course Laughing

I knew the DVLA were bad, but goddamn that's insane. I'd be kicking off big time. I think I'll get a copy of my documents too, I don't think I could stand being made to do my car or bike test again - all but forgotten how to drive anyway!

I hope you get it sorted!

Corner shops, newsagens, particularly ones near court offices, often have photocopiers and charge 20p a copy or something.

Public library; often have coin operated photocopiers.

As a student; college libraries usually have card op copiers....

Or for the REALLY impoverished / desperate...... you ask a freind, relative, work collegue or teacher to copy your licence for you as a favour!

But you have a computer; and yes, colour printer/scanners are pretty cheap and very useful!

The DVLA fook up - is how my Dad lost his entitlement to riding a motorbike. They don't accept photocopies of licences as evidence.

The best way is to have two licences. Basically send off for a new licence and pay the £20. Then when you have two, you have peace of mind that if one goes astray you have the 'other' as back-up/proof.

B1 is a milk float, it entitles you to drive a milk float (funnily enough) and a quad/trike. Thumbs Up

Interesting thread - I've heard of these cock-ups before. A friend tells me he always writes a letter to DVLA and asks for the old licence back as well.

Surely it would also be a good idea to hold onto your pass certificate from the test as well ? That's what I intend to do (I nearly got the bloody thing framed to be honest !).

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Never, ever surrender a driving license, just tick the "lost" box (then "find" it later if necessary). But I guess you know that now.

Whether the DVLA will "accept" a photocopy or not, if they refuse to correct their error then I'd suggest that you consider billing them for a lifetime of extra insurance costs, kick off a County Court action, then watch them suddenly reconsider their position.

Definitely keep hold of the pass certificates... it saved me when they lost my entitlement. Thumbs Up

As Roger said, starting any form of court dealings with them with proof at all... will cause them to hide like hermits and they will crumble Laughing Especially if you have been riding for years and have proof of it Laughing

Don't photo-copy it, keep your old one and tell those worthless incompetant scum that you lost it. Then when the lying arrogant filth tell you to take your test again you can produce the old licence (that you just 'found') and tell them to go fuck themselves.

People have tried this before with the DVLA and failed, hard.

As far as the DVLA are concerned (and they are right to an extent) you can edit pictures so easily to a convincing standard nowadays that it's not good practice.

People who have lost their motorcycle entitlement and have had photocopies of both parts of their license stating they have a motorcycle entitlement have been told it makes no odds at all, simple.

As far as they are concerned, if you don't have the pass certificate or the sheet the examiner signed that can be corroborated with the actual examiner, then you didn't pass. It blows but that's how they operate.

I'm shocked the DVLA can get away with this. I know that's probably naive of me but still Surprised

I was keeping my pass certificates anyway but now I shall cherish them. I think I'll also "lose" my licence and get another just in case.

They can get away with it because people let them.

Contrary to all the evidence here, my dad had all of his categories restored by sending the DVLA a photocopy of his license. They had originally lost not only his license but all evidence of all of his driving entitlements.
