 |
|
Im looking for another classic stroker, i had a GP100 not long ago and enjoyed every moment of it. im looking for another, for under 700 quid, can someone sort me out with a list of classic strokers or point me in the direction of some good places to buy one.
And yes i dont care about having L plates, ive ridden a ninja 636 and it scared the pants off me, i enjoy riding small capacity bikes.
Thankyou!

hi,
had a couple of rg125 gammas & found them easy to work on, easy to de-restrict & cheap for parts.
& the best bit.... they can usually be bought for a few hundred quid (with no tax & mot) up to around 750 for a good one with t&t.
small, very light but when de-restricted with micron exhaust & open air filter, there good for around 100mph. (indicated).
im actually re-building one at present....
another good choice is the mtx125, or ts125,later rg125 fun, kh125,gp100, etc etc, plenty to choose from.
cheers,

Hi
This might take a while. List of older 2 squeak road bikes.
Aprilia AF1 - Early ones used 16" wheels and the Rotax 127 engine. Single sided swinging arm(barely beaten by the VFR400 as the first chain drive road bike with a SSSA). Top speed of about 94mph. Big petrol and 2 stroke oil tanks and comfy to ride. Later there was the AF1 Sintesi and AF1 Futura, both using the Rotax 123 engine and having USD forks (first sports bike with USD forks). Top speed of about 98 / 99 respectively (but the Futura had quite a lot more power). 17" wheels, alloy frames, 4 piston front caliper.
Aprilia Europa - Unfaired Aprilia Futura.
Cagiva Alleta Rossa - Mid 1980s sports bike. Very rare in the UK.
Cagiva Freccia - 16" front / 17" rear wheels. Steel frame. All enclosing bodywork. Early C9 had twin under seat exhausts and 6 speed gearbox. Later C10 and C12 had revised bodywork, the C12 had a 7 speed gearbox (very late C12 had the 6 speed gearbox again along with the skinnier wheels from the early C9). Rare in the UK as only imported in very small numbers
Cagiva Mito - Alloy framed, 7 speed gearbox. Banana swinging arm. 17" wheels with radial tyres. Very early ones were available as an unfaired model (rumoured to be because the bodywork was outsourced to the far east and was late). Top speed of just a gnats under 100. Loads around.
Gilera RV125 - Steel framed electric start mid 1980s 2 stroke. Was officially imported but didn't sell well (Gilera did rather too good a job of restricting them). Similar in styling to the Honda MBX125.
Gilera KK125 / KZ125 - Steel framed (looks like an alloy box section) almost fully faired. Not imported but the odd one around. Most were electric start (think officially it was an optional extra).
Gilera MXR / MX1 - Updates on the above. Complete with a space under the tank for a lid to be stored in. Again not officially imported.
Gilera SP01 / SP02 / Crono / GFR - New model with very heavily revised engine. Quick. Steel frame. USD forks on all except the SP01.
Gilera CX125 - Rare model with a single sided 'fork' and single sided swinging arm. All enclosing bodywork.
Honda H100 - 100cc 2 stroke commuter. Top speed a bit under 60 but pretty quick acceleration. Very good on fuel. Watch out for corrosion on the mudguards and main bearings are weak.
Honda MBX125 - Hondas first 125 2 stroke sports bike. Rather too well restricted but fairly quick when derestricted. Steel frames, 16" front and 18" rear wheels. Kickstart only. Red line at 10500, but little chance of usefully getting there even when derestricted.
Honda NS125F / NS125R - Steel framed (meant to look like a box section alloy frame). Kick start only. 16" front / 18" rear wheels. Built in Italy from mainly Italian bits. F had a bikini fairing, R had a full fairing.
Honda NSR125F / NSR125R - Alloy framed electric start 125 (although there was a kickstart SP version) built in Italy. Fairly quick. F unfaired and R fully faired.
Kawasaki AR125 - Kawasakis early 1980s 125 sports bike. Available in both restricted and full power forms, but the restricted ones are not cheap or easy to derestrict (Kawasaki thought people actually wanted a restricted bike). Rotary and reed valve induction. Full power ones did 87mph.
Kawasaki KC100 - Kawasakis basic 100cc 2 stroke commuter. Cheap but not seen or heard of one in years.
Kawasaki KH100 - Kawasakis slightly sporty 100cc 2 stroke commuter. More equivalent to the H100.
Kawasaki KH125 - Sporty commuter 125. More a sporty bike that hung on as a commuter for a good few years after being superceeded.
Suzuki GP100 / GP125 - Another sporty bike that carried on long after being superceeded. GP125 was over the old 12hp learner limit and was restricted with a washer above the carb slide to stop it opening fully.
Suzuki GT125 - 125 twin, the sporty brother of the GP125.
Suzuki RG125 - Steel frames liquid cooled 125 which is tiny and skinny. Made by shoe horning a 125 engine in to the RG80 running gear. Normally fully faired, or faired but missing the belly pan (well, until crashed). Restricted they were the quickest 125 2 stroke of the 1980s managing about 80 and fairly easy to derestrict.
Suzuki RG125 - Steel framed (made to look like an alloy beam frame). Equivalent to the NSR125 and AF1 Futura. Electric start. Fully faired (there was also an unfaired version).
Yamaha YB100 - Basic commuter 100cc 2 stroke.
Yamaha RXS100 - Slightly sporty 100cc 2 stroke single. Same performance as the restricted 125s of the time.
Yamaha RD125 twin - Air cooled twin. Quick compared to the air cooled singles (mid 80s mph), but by modern standards looks like a commuter.
Yamaha RD125LC - Liquid cooled single. Early ones had an 18" front wheel, later ones a 16" front wheel. Most restricted but were also sold in the UK as full power (mainly for Northern Ireland where the 250cc learner law still applied, but insurance on a 250 was silly). Full power they did 87 (and a load more on the optimistic clocks). Mark 3 version in the UK had an engine with a power valve (although nothing to operate it).
Yamaha TZR125 - Steel framed liquid cooled 2 stroke. Same engine as the mark 3 RD125LC. Optional full fairing. Mid 70s top speed restricted, low 90s top speed in full power form.
Yamaha TZR125 - Alloy framed TZR made in Italy by Yamahas Italian importer (Belgarda). Electric start. Frame from the TZR250. Loads of Italian components (Paoli forks, Brembo brakes, etc).
Yamaha TZR125 - Alloy framed full faired Japanese built 125. Electric start. More built down to a price than the older Italian TZR125.
Hope that gives you something to think about
All the best
