I recently took off the carb on my CG125, it all went back together however the step in the haynes manual where it says to adjust the throttle cable gives little clue to the uninitiated as to how to go about this...

Can anyone give me some tips?

The twist grip operates the throttle and engages the cam but on release the throttle stays open (engine off, fuel tap off), rotating the twist grip closed does shut it.

Obviously unsafe so how do I make it all nice and tight again?

Cheers and virtual beers in advance Smile

you need to take the slider from the carb and make sure the spring is all in tact if it is try stretching the spring it should be touching the bottom of the slider and the top of the slider casing Smile

What I suspect you may have done is put the slide back in the carb the wrong way round.

Unscrew the cap on top of the throttle, withdraw the slide and needle, and re-insert it with the groove in the slide facing the idle screw.

Checked the carb, all was well, had another go at adjusting the cable and success! The throttle cable moves as it should.

Fired the bike up.....forgetting the idle screw was miles out, nearly had a heart attack as the bike idled on the redline and instead of using the screw driver in my pocket I switched off the ignition, think I have flooded it as it would not restart, so its currently drying out with the spark plug removed.

Positive steps though.

Bike idles at max revs regardless of idle screw position.

Ideas anyone?

I can't think of anything that would cause that other than the throttle slide being stuck open.

I'd suggest double checking that the slide is in the right way around.

Pop out the slide and needle and have a look at it. There's an angled indentation on the slide. This must be oriented facing the idle screw, so that the screw sits in the indentation (and screwing it in and out limits how much the slide can close).

If it's oriented any other way, the slide will simply sit on top of the idle screw and be held open.

This is a lot simpler to figure out with your hands on the carb than it is to explain with a keyboard. Very Happy
