So now another insurers are trying to screw me out of more money,

When i insured my R1 and got to the part about where the vehicle is kept overnight MCE had the option of "Kept on 3rd Party"

Now its been stolen the underwriters/mce are quibbling saying it was actually kept on a carpark, basically saying its not where i said it was, trying to charge 80 quid fee for ammending the policy.

Now as far as im concerned it is kept on 3rd party land, its not owned by me or the insurers, its not the public road, not garaged, not a drive way, basically does not fit under their neat categories.

So now im having a back and forth on the phone about the definition etc.

What does kept on 3rd party overnight mean to you?

Unless they ask you to specify an exact place (a mate's house with address supplied) then surely anywhere that isn't your house/garden/driveway etc comes under 3rd party? That's how I'd interpret it.

Ask them what they would consider to be 3rd party.

I would consider non public land owned by someone who is not me or a legal spouse to be third party property.

Personally, I've never heard of land being owned by a 3rd party.

I'm pretty sure all land is owned by someone. If MCE were interested who that was in the first place, they should have brought it up when you took the policy out.

In any case, you could send them a picture of the place where it was nicked from, and also a Google map and tell them to do their own investigation on who owns the land, that's what you pay them to do... Thumbs Up

I tend to agree, but then a car park to which the public have I unrestricted access may not fall into that category, since it is public land (although privately owned).

Hang on. Why does that matter? What if you rode your bike into town to go shopping and it gets nicked?

Will they not payout then because you didn't say you store your bike outside the shopping centre?

There is normally a "within 1 mile of your house" and it must be XXX or similar clause.

I've just spent about 3 minutes going through the MCE sign up to find that the very first entry in the "Night Location" drop-down is

Car Park

When can I expect to get my 3 minutes back?

This +1

I reckon they use the term to mean at another property where the owner is known to the insurer.

Roger as i pointed out to them, where it was stored is NOT a carpark, cars dont have access to where it was chained. Its more like a compound.

Incidentally just after posting that the police phoned me up to say my r1 had been found, im going to make another thread for that one...

When I got ins through H+R I queried this, as my bike would be left in three places, my back garden, the public car park outside my work, and my girlfriends house on regular occasions.

They noted my girlfriend's house (On her drive) as a third party place, my back garden as main and car park outside as part of my commuting bit.

Should maybe have pointed that out to us as well then. Wink

Sorry, I discomprehended your point.
