I've got an NSR 125 FL model sat in my basement at the moment, I've had this thing for a while, tried getting it sorted out for ages now.

Basically the wiring loom is shagged, when it's hooked up to a battery, it smokes.

Someone chopped around with the wiring loom under the intention of "helping" me with it, and now it smokes.

Before this, i did manage to get the thing running, idling etc.

I will add it also needs a few small bits that will all add up - loom, throttle cable, clutch cable, right handlebar, forks will need doing and I'm sure a few bits I've forgotten. The bike is a general mess I'd say.

Now I'm not sure what to do, whether I should just break it and sell the parts or try put some money into it and try do it myself.

What do you guys reckon?

It doesn't sound like a too big of a job. The wiring is fairly simple on the NSR's.

What exactly do you mean by it smokes by the way? from the electrics?

Have a look on ebay for a set of decent second hand forks and if they come up at the right price go from there Thumbs Up

The forks are fine, they just need the seals doing is what I meant.

The loom smokes, the wiring.

So I'm worried that if I buy a loom the CDI will just be fubar'd and then I'll have to get one of those.

It's a bike for a mate basically he just needs to get on the road soon but getting hold of a decent 125 for less than £800 quid is tough!

(Given that his budget is like £400).

Such a shame that the learner legal market is so much more expensive than if you have a full license, got my GPZ for £400, but my TZR 125 for £680.

So I guess my basic question is... what do you think the best idea is for him to get on the road, fix this thing up, put money into it, or sell the bits and use anything he makes to go towards one that doesn't need anything doing?

Not in the BCF for sale section Whistle

All you really need is to sit down with the wiring loom off the bike and grab the NSR wiring schematic and trace each one. Any joins that aren't meant to be/wires that are stripped and rubbing etc, just sort it. Might take you an hour or so...but it seems pretty simple Thumbs Up

Ha thanks for the heads-up, I hadn't thought of the for sale section here!

Do you reckon a wheel from an NSR 125 would fit onto an NS125?

(The NSR has better brakes, bigger disc, grimeca calipers).

nsr's have possibly the worst electics since the creation of the electric steam train.

But there is nothing to them. Look at a wiring diagram from a nsr and then take a peak at a new s1000rr diagram...
