Just wondered as I normally stick to the bike until I can not get it out of my road anymore but have always thought about getting a little 125 for the winter months.

So what do you do stick to the bike or go for 4 wheels or 2legs?

I usually stick to the GSX-R unless it is raining, has rained or the conditions are bad (i.e. gritted the night before), if that is the case we have a 1989 Kawasaki KDX200 two stroke with knobblies on which is great fun when used in the winter and is a bit better to drop. Laughing.

Getting a winter hack is a good idea, much better to spend £600 on a hack you can use for the winter when for most newer bikes a fast-ish drop in the winter is likely to do more than £600 worth of damage!

Cheers! Thumbs Up!

My ER6 is my commute, my Z750 is my toy.

Saying that winter is hard on your bike. I'm lucky in that I have a hose at work, so I can and do rinse the bike down every day. I spray the Scotoiler anti rust spray on it also.

That aside, I'm on my 4th winter now on my ER6 and i've been through an exhaust and 1 set of downpipes.

TBH When I first got in to biking I didn't really feel the cold, now i'm 8 years older, I really do feel it. I do have a car, so if its too cold i'll go in that.

I use car mostly, but if the weather is nice I will take the Duke out, after all it is a bike and does need to be ridden, I just find it awful to ride in the wet, it keeps most of you dry, but the riding position means you either have to
A. Ride fast and lean over the tank like you were doing silly speeds, which hurts your neck trying to keep the rain off your visor.
B. Ride slow and sit up which ruins your back and the top half of you gets soaked and you get pelted with rain as it seems the front nose directs rain directly at your neck.

So I avoid riding in the crap weather.

GSXR1000. I went to a KTM690 with studded tyres (more because I had spare wheels and spare knackered trail tyres that fitted that, than anything else) for the particularly snowy/icey stuff a couple of years ago.

Did the last 3 winters on a YBR125, clocked up nearly 40k miles then it was written off in an accident (not my fault). Going to do this one and as many subsequent ones as possible on a CBF125. Even with the finance I'm paying on the CBF, being new and all, in total, I still spend about half of what I would on an annual season ticket for the train! Very Happy Without the finance it would be about 1/3 of the cost of taking the train. For me, the bike itself is almost a consumable with that in mind.

Last two winters on a FJ1200.
This year? Don't know as there is a huge question mark over my job for the next couple of months while they sort out contracts and decides who gets what and who stays. Neutral

Last four winters on a 954 Blade with an RXS100 for properly icy days.

This year I’ll be alternating between CB500 and CBR600F. I still have the RXS100 for emergencies, but to be honest if it’s too snowy and icy to ride the big bikes I’ll be joining the rest of the cattle on the trains for a few days.

ZX9R in all conditions.

Even made it in to work on days where other colleagues were snowed in.

Never had any real problems in snow or ice, just take it easy and be ultra smooth.

Just ride what I normally ride, 30 or so winters in. Only stop for laying snow.

My bikes. Fair weather is for girly poofs. (Distinction made as there are some manly poofs. They're mainly lesbians though)

CBR600f.

Taking the car is a major pain in the ass for various reasons so unless it snows I am on the bike.

C70 for the snow, but only for a lolololololz.

9R's broken and I use the car to commute. Soon, a diesel. Sad

A couple of years ago Reading was hit by some really bad snow on I think was the Tuesday a week before Christmas or something (there was stories on the news of people staying in beds in department stores etc that night). That was the night for the work company party.

Most people decided to walk the couple of miles in to town - "don't take the bike, you'll hurt yourself" one woman warned - it took them about an hour to get in to town and she fell over twice.
It took me about 20 minutes (did have to make use of the pavement in the really tight bit of traffic that wasn't moving). I was warm and dry (heated grips, roadcrafter) and sitting in the pub a long time before they were.
The person that took a car took several hours to cover the same distance. I rode my bike home at the end of the night and was treated to a lovely post-apocalyptic scene of deserted streets and abandoned vehicles every where.

ZZR600, bought and used for commute. Would like to have gotten a 125 for snow, but its 40miles each way to work and back, and that would take me ages, so i'll opt for train when weather turns to shit (laying snow etc)

or stabilisers Laughing

Ill be putting the knobblies on the big girl this weekend hopefully... less rubber on the road... win Razz

nah when it snows I just worked from home.. shimples!

for a specific winter hack just clean it then cover it with half an inch thick of acf50, then wash it off if you dare.. or just leave it on and live with the grubby look... but knowing it's clean underneath Razz

Fair point, it's all well and good saying I'll use the CG, but when the snow falls, I'll be working from home too as I'm the only one without a set of keys for the office and everybody else will struggle to get in with their cars.
