Hi all

I have an AGV S4 which sometimes steams up. I ideally want to get an Arai, which will be soon.

But in the mean time I found these:

https://www.racevisors.co.uk/categories.php?msg=Product+GT+-+Airtech%2C+Titech%2C+Stealth+%26+S4+Added+Successfully%21&c=68&p=2418&js_item_added=true&base_pid=2418-7971-0-0&

Has anyone ever used one before and could recommend for anti fog before I waste my money on one?

Thanks

I have Pinlock post on my clear and my dark visor and use an insert if the conditions make it worthwile (eg cold and/or wet). I find it largely unobtrusive and it does a good job of keeping mist down - I find if I huff inside the helmet it will mist up but will very quickly clear again.

You need to stay on top of keeping them clean though. I prefer this to the Fog City inserts as you can take them off quickly and easily.

You need to have Pinlock posts on your visor - you can either get a visor pre-fitted with them or there are ways to get posts added to your visor (I went the first route).

Excellent bit of kit.

As mine is just the bog standard tinted visor, I'll need to buy a pinlock visor first then the insert right?

Bringing up this thread again.

The cheapest I've found for pinlock visors plus insert is £50!

Does anyone know any cheaper anywhere?

Seems quite a lot for a visor.

The universal kit costs £20 ish and allows you to modify a normal visor to fit pinlock (i.e contains the posts, a drill bit and a template).

This sort of thing:

Ah, fair enough...

You will probably struggle to get below £50, visors are a bit of a rip off.

Ah Sad Thanks though.

I've got my eye on this:

https://www.helmetcity.co.uk/Arai-RX7-GP-Nicky-III_ASGC8.aspx

It's cheapest I've seen anywhere from £650 to £400. I want a new helmet anyway and this is the one I will go for, has the pinlock visor too.

But my bro said that the winter salt will damage it and be worth getting next year?

I've been using a Matt coloured helmet so not had a shiny before. Seriously thinking of it though. Against the visor I see it as me buying it for £350.

A word of warning about choosing a lid on any aspect other than fit.

I have a £400 AGV GP tech at home that I have used a handful of times only and has been taking up space since. I bought it as a noob thinking it was awesome yada yada yada, it seemed to fit ok but I hadn't tried many others on. After a few rides with it I found I couldn't see much out of the visor because it sat too low on my head, I also rattled around in it once the pads bedded in and it was noisy because of all the extra space.

I then bought a £100 HJC FG-15 that I have been using for several years since. It cost me very little and it is an excellent helmet, I REALLY no longer see the need to spend £400 on a helmet. £100-200 will get you a good lid, £200-300 will get you a good lid with some trick bits, the most important part of it is how it fits. Go to a helmet vendor and try on loads of helmets in your price range, pick the ones that fit well and choose from those. If you are interested in some independent views on how well they might protect your head then look up the SHARP rating (Arai do quite poorly on all the lids except the RX7 GP (4/5) and the GP5x (5/5)), there is debate about how accurate this is (mainly by arai because they did badly) as a means of testing helmets but it is still something worth considering. Don't do what I did which was essentially choose a lid then choose a size that fits the best.

A rather expensive mistake.

If the RX7 fits perfectly, you can comfortably afford it and you can't think of anything better to spend lots of money on then buy one, otherwise don't fall for the marketing. Helmets will get stone chips no matter what time of year, the visors are ruined by winter salt etc though, but that is the same for any lid.

Thanks Donny.

I went to a arai dealer and they had the entire range.

I tried on every model and the Chaser V was nice, also the RX7-GP.

The newer RX7 which I tried on had improved vision compared to the older versions and felt very similar to the Chaser V.

Just thinking it's time I got a new one after nearly 5 years with the AGV S4 as the padding is going a bit too.

Tried looking for when Arai release a 2012 range but couldn't find it anywhere?
