It's fun to let them have it at the start, gives them hope before crushing their morale as you blast past.

Not that I would ever do such a thing, obviously.

I used to have a 125 scoot Embarassed and it could of easily beat my rs250 of the mark maybe up to about 10mph. But i don't like pulling away and hitting the limiter on the rs so i always take it easy in the first gear. On scoots you just whip the throttle back and of you go, you don't really have to worry about flipping it or spinning out. And besides i've already had the clutch plates replaced once from where i used to dip the clutch all the time.

Anyway i hate scoots as well, they are dreadful things especially in the wet Mad .I wasn't one of these nob heads you see going round on them today who think they've got the fastest thing on the road.

What power does an NSR make? at the rear wheel, not the crank.

23/24 bhp.

The 180 two stroke runners were rumoured to beat porches 0-60.

A 125 geared bike will have a disadvantage to a 125automatic as the auto will stay at peak power once its got there while the geared bike has to go up and down the rev range.

Depends if the runner puts out the same amount as a nsr.

A tunned 125 scoot will keep up with a 125 race rep. Some of the 172 runners and dragsters ( 125 big bored ) in straightliners last year were running 14 second 1/4 miles. RS125 does it in 15.8 and a nsr probably 16.

Yeah, a 172 very highly tuned can pull off a standing quarter in about 13 seconds. My drag only puts out 22hp at the rear wheel at the moment, which should improve to about 24-25 when I get a bit more work done later this summer. Off the line a tuned scoot will beat most stuff, but at speed a bike will gain rapidly as scooter gearing doesn't pull to much more than 100mph and usually starts to run out of steam at 80mph.

Some scoots when tuned are pretty fast. Even a Piaggio Zip 50 with a big bore kit and other mods will push out over 20bhp at the back wheel.

I found this on the net. Its a video of a tuned Zip vs an R1, Its pretty cool. If it can beat an R1 of the mark it must be able to beat a Porche easy. And this is only a tuned 50, a tuned 125 scoot will be much quicker.

https://home01.wxs.nl/~twinsscooterservice/zipvsr1.wmv

Heres the scoot from above on a dyno. Its got 21.7bhp to the back wheel. Not bad for a scoot.

A scooter clutch can be set up so it provides the best acceleration by just turning the throttle, while a bike you actually have to use some skill for.

The r1 clip is an obvious example, the longer wheel base means it can accelerate faster, but the rider hasn't got enough skill to keep the front wheel down and still keep maximum power down.

generally technique for fast get aways on a 'normal' bike:
Hold throttle so engine's at about peak power, or the power it will wheelie off the throttle on more powerful bikes. When the lights go, slip the clutch so that not quite all the power gets down, so the front /just/ doesn't lift, if it starts to come up you will need to feather the clutch slightly to bring it down without loosing power.
