I'm starting a new job tomorrow, and my new boss has an old ZZR6 that he's said I can use to get to work.

My question is can I just insure the bike in my name and use it, or does it have to be registered to me?

Cheers.

No, you can insure a vehicle that's not registered in your name.
On the insurance form there should be a question asking if you are the registered keeper, when you answer 'no' you should then be asked for those details.

Almost, you will be asked if you are the registered owner & keeper.

You will be aiming to be the registered keeper, he will retain ownership, its a simple process to regster your new status (keeper) and thus gives you an insurable interest

Except he probably doesn't want to swap the v5 over to have to swap it back again and add two more owners to it.

Also if he's only planning to be using it fora short time, reasonably he shouldn't be the registered keeper.

Cheers for the replies.

I'll be using it long term as my transport to and from work (which he's fine with), but as I'm only just starting I haven't really broached the subject of ownership, yet.

I'm hoping to be able to eventually buy it off him, but until then I just want to insure it for work. I've been told by my mate who works there and got me the job, that he's used it once in the last 18 months and he probably will let me have it off him cheap (£4-500).

The bike in question is a '92 ZZR600 with 30K on the clock.
