Not as epic as super awesome turbo just a few bolt ons and stuff Mr. Green

Here it is when I got it:

https://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu274/rac3r786/First1.jpg

I changed a few small bits like tidying the tail to get rid of the massive 'tea tray', LED tail light, etc. But my first big mod was to change the exhaust. It already had Termi Slip ons but someone was selling an Arrow race system pretty cheap and at the same time someone wanted mine so I went for it...

https://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu274/rac3r786/DSCN0991.jpg

The quality and finish of the Arrow system is much much better than the Termi's. If I were to buy a new bike Arrows would be my first pick.

It took me about a week to fit the system Laughing Stuck studs, new gaskets, bastard springs, etc was a massive pain in the arse! Got it done eventually though

https://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu274/rac3r786/DSCN0997.jpg

On first start up my reaction was 'woah it's pretty loud' then I went for a ride Shocked I can't think of anything to describe the sound the thing makes! I also had an open airbox on there but I think I'll put the lid back on to quieten it down a bit Laughing

Next Up: Brakes

Nearly every Monster comes with 4 piston gold line Brembo's and 320mm discs but for some odd reason the S2R 800 was fitted with 280mm discs and crappy 2 piston sliding calipers. Luckily the upgrade is a straight swap.

Here is the original set up

https://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu274/rac3r786/DSCN0954.jpg

I managed to get new calipers for £40 for a pair along with master cylinders and lines for an extra £30. Didn't need the masters or lines so I sold those on. Got some EBC discs and new pads so just need to get it all fitted. Updates when it happens

Nice bike and good modifications. Thumbs Up

Check the engine mounting bolts (your bike is pretty much a stripped down ST2)

Any ramifications from removing the udder? IIRC some tweaks were needed.

The udder uses that little bracket you can see just under the foot peg and the Arrow system uses the same fixings. No tweaks were needed as far as I know

The Arrow system is made to run with no adjustments to the ECU as long as you use the standard air box set up. I ran it today with the open set up/ K&N filter and it ran ok but burbled and popped a bit on the overrun so I'm putting the lid back on to see how it runs like that.

Is that what you meant or are you talking about something else? Laughing

Yes it was the usual mix of airbox mods and something to do with sensors in the cat. All abit hazy as it was a few years ago when i looked into getting a S2R.

Ah right. No mine is a 2005 so doesn't have the 'closed loop' problem I think they call it. Something to do with the lambada sensor or something.

But for now I need to switch my airbox back to standard and maybe get the garage to mess around with the settings, either that or buy a PC for £200 Shocked

You can also have the ECU flashed which apparently allows more flexibility than a PC but for now I'm going for the cheapo option Mr. Green

I don't think the engine bolt thing affects Monsters, at least I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere

The failed engine bolt has been seen in various ducatis and not just the ST2. Also as it's steel into alloy and ducati are stingy with grease it will have that white dusty crud on it. If you do drift it out and re-grease, it's recommended that you don't re-use the old bolt.

A list i found.

2 ST2
2 Hyper
1 ST4
1 ST4s
1 Sport Classic
1 Paul Smart
1 GT
1 Monster 1000
1 749

In short
It's a bolt..check it.

That last pic shows the 2 engine mounting points (behind the rubber grommets) You'll need a workshop manual for the torque settings...

https://wanwo.zoomshare.com/1.shtml for everything.

You had me worrying since yesterday about this Laughing I found that thread on DucatiMS and saw the pics, mine all look fine. I removed the rubber caps and the bolts look like new with grease still on them but I couldn't check the torque because I don't have a torque wrench so I'll get the mechanic to check when he does the brakes

Thanks for letting me know though! Thumbs Up

Haha no problem Thumbs Up

Standard air box lid back on, takes a couple of minutes. Love the simplicity of an air cooled Monster Cool

Will ride it this week and see how it runs now, a couple of times yesterday it sounded like I was being shot at on the overrun Laughing

Went for a long ride today and it was awesome BUT it needs setting up or a PC and I need ear plugs Laughing

https://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu274/rac3r786/DSCN1003.jpg

I have a couple of bits in the post and working on a custom seat cowl as well. My current one is held on with cable ties and a new one costs £140 Shocked

Laughing

I'll try and make a vid sometime but it probably won't do it any justice, sounds mental!

At the moment:

- Brake upgrade to be fitted
- PCIII to be fitted (won cheap on ebay Smile)
- Custom seat cowl in the making (749 monoposto style)
- Powder coating a few bits
- DIY window belt covers
- Rizoma copy mirrors

Maybe mods (wish list Laughing):

- Speedymoto triple clamps
- Ducabike clip ons
- Cyclecat rearsets
- 1098 style speedo

Looking good. Always had a bit of a soft spot for the monsters. That white stripe does it for me too. I feel it needs the front forks anodised gold a la ohlins. Also a few of the grey/silver bits powder coated black would clean the look up a bit.

I've just noticed you live right near me. You don't happen to ride around Uxbridge do you? I've seen a couple of S2Rs about.

I go down to Daytona quite a bit which is near there. I know a couple of other Monster's around there too

I was actually going to do exactly what you said about the forks Laughing Someone on the Monster forum can do them for £80 which isn't bad. When winter sets in I might take it apart and get those bits done.

I even photoshopped it ages ago!

They scrub-up well too.

Yep Showa forks but the crappy non adjustable kind. They are the only thing that let the frond end down looks wise (and the indicators). I'm thinking of either doing the superbike fork swap from the 916 etc or get these re-done and paint the fork bottoms black or something. Bikes done just over 20k so the rear shock could probably do with a change too. Funny thing is because I'm really light it feels perfect as it is!

If you like the front end now i'd be tempted to just do the oil.
Unless you're thinking of doing some trackdays.

Or is it a keeper and you just want the best bits on it? (Thinking about the Resale of originals v Modded)

Resale value has already gone because of the 20k miles I think. It's a keeper.....unless I magically have 10k spare to buy the new Streetfighter 848 Laughing Even then it will be hard to let go!

At one point I thought of fitting Ohlins from an RSVR but after buying them and having them re-done it came close to 1k so I'll either do the superbike set up or have these freshened up and spend on a new rear shock like a Nitron or something.

Oh I also want a steering damper as well Laughing
