Dunno how many of you lot use them. It appears they are going to concentrate on inbuilt in car systems and mobile phone apps. I know a few people that have satnav units on bikes. The way mobile phones have gone whats the betting the other satnav makers will follow suit eventually?

Having had my zumo nicked from my car, I'm now not sure if I'll bother replacing it or just get a phone mount for the bike.
I believe we're soon meant to be getting bluetooth input/keyboard options for Android if we can't already - this could lead to being able to make some nice 'thumb controls' for an enclosed phone on the bars.
Using a phone offers lots of other interesting options - for instance lots of other gauges for bikes with ODBII.

Use NavFree on my iPhone. It's quite slow but it's free and updated regularly so .. win Thumbs Up

Can't find anywhere decent though to mount on my handlebars so I have to put it on top of my tank bag.

Anyway - yeah, I wouldn't bother buying a new Sat Nav after my Tom Tom finally packed it after 4 years of faithful service.

Don't think they work with the current phone software?

But I was meaning that something could be developed to have easy 'bike friendly' controls which could be permanently on the bike, so you could use the phone while it was in protective case.
Ideally you'd also have an external screen Atrix style too, which would could be used as your main dash.

Deffo meant to work on Android. Android 2.3 and up seems the requirement for them. Only got 2.1 myself so didn't get one to try. I do get what you mean about controls though.

I have no idea if it works for Android but I was 1 that couldn't have been wider then 5 inches, a micro keyboard and it had a sort of trackball on the side. Would be a handy device to have for a bike as using touch-screens with gloves is pretty much impossible.

Garmin standalone devices have been better in terms of support than Tomtom for some time. Most adventure riders will have a Garmin.

Personally I use Sygic 10 on my android phone. Now that i'm used to it, i'd say it's better than my TomTom app

I've read several stories about the aledged withdrawl of Tom Tom from the PND (personnel navigation device) market. Most have been disproved. Though it seems Tom Tom are starting to focus more on less models, bringing to the market more "smarter" models using the live service side of things

I`ve been happy with my Tom Tom for about 4 years now and I have to say it`s never let me down yet?.

I`m way behind on the latest tec and Sat-nav`s so it`s going to be a bit of a shock when I finally have to change/upgrade.
As my phone is getting a bit long in the tooth as well, I think I will look for a phone with a navigation app already on it..

Last year I ran my Tom Tom on the bike via a cigerette lighter socket wired directly to the battery and a in-line fuse in place.
The display just went into the top of my tank-bag.
All this was easy and no issues.

What`s going to happen when/if I use a phone and phone app?
I cant run a lead to the phone? and the battery life on a phone is going to be an issue.

You can charge a phone easily, just get a car charger and plug it in where you plugged in the sat nav. Thumbs Up

Personally i'm not too keen on Tom Tom's. I have had 2 of them now and just after the warranty ran out they both went tits up.

I wont be buying a third.
