Do you mean this sort of thing?

https://www.mdracingproducts.co.uk/products/dune-hand-guard-2/

They normally come with a fitting/adapter kit for if you had differant thickness bars to the standard 7/8" that are fitted to smaller bikes.

Yes that is the sort of thing i'm after.I know they say universal fit but i have read that some of them are not very easy or you have to modify or some just wont fit at all.
Was hoping that someone might have some fitted to their xr125 and could offer some expert advice.
Thanks Scezy

I have this type of hand guard fitted to my XR-SM and to my KTM enduro. The bolt that goes into the end of the handlebar expands so holding it in place in the hollow part of the bar.The other part of the guard is held in place by a clamp that is situated near to the bar clamps on the top yoke.

Have a look see at https://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/xr/

Ive got some of those Acerbis ones, saved my delicate hands from tress jumping out at me a few times! Definitely good bit of kit especially for keeping the cold air off your fingers. Easy to fit too as long as you make sure to put a dot of locktite on the mounting bolts.

Just thought id get a few things ready for my hand guard delivery which should be in the morning.I have taken the grips off,but the bar ends are solid. I had started drilling a hole hoping it would go through after about an inch, but after drilling for about 2-3 inches still not reached through.I ha also snapped a bit in there.does anyone have any answers other than buying some hollow bars.

It sounds as though Honda may well have fitted some bars that have a solid end to help with damping any vibrations that cause 'white thumb'.There are better handlebars than those fitted as OEM that will be lighter and most probably stronger that would allow you to fit your hand guards, like these from M&P

https://www.mandp.co.uk/productsList.aspx?tier1=Bars+And+Footrests&tier2=Universal+bars

Also,I found a good step-by-step procedure on how to fit the guards. As has been said,do not forget to use some threadlock on the bolts.
