Bikes for 2 up (for the larger persons!)

After having a discussion with the other half last night, I have approval (I think!) for another bike...however I need help in choosing!

the spec list:

Needs to be able to carry 30 stone (combined weight)
Wifes first time on bike so needs to be comfy!
under £1500

Because this is a second bike im not after perfection, it would be used for 1/2 day trips or full day trips 2-up, age of bike not a problem as such...

Im thinking pan euro, r1100, K100....ermmmm!

anything that fits the criteria?? (truimph sprint???)

Don't know if it's still available, but FM jimbothe was selling a tidy looking FJ1200 recently.

Unless you desperately want shaft drive, it's well worth considering one of these.

I think the Pan would be the best, but if you are looking at an 1100, do some homework on how to check for craked crankcases!

Would you consider a V-strom? All up weight you are thinking of would mean a 1000, not a 650! (edit - not a chace within your budget unless it is fit for the nackers yard only!!)

FJ1200, good rock steady bike with good performance and excellent reliability.
Long and reasonably low with good suspension and the ability to easily take 30 stone.
Best of all the price. You could pick up a 3XW for under 1500 with all the bells and whistles.

Edit: Just seen above post. I'm going to keep hold of mine for now but I can't recommend them high enough. Old and steady. Thumbs Up

I'd go for TDM only because how comfortable it is and one of my instructors was a big bloke about 18stone id say and it didn't affect the bike one bit with me on at 10 stone.

id go the pan euro,
friggin comfy bikes,
there were a few guys on them when i did the grand challenge,
they were getting pretty good mpg (around 50mpg (uk))
better than what i was getting on the bandit 1200 and cb1000

Definitely the Pan European, comfy, can take the weight, not frightening to look at and good fuel consumption.

I did a tour of the south coast back in May on the SV - combined people weight was about 34st and then there was luggage on top. For a small-ish bike it was brilliant. I did get the preload adjusted beforehand. The missus wasn't a seasoned pillion but thoroughly enjoyed it. Would have been a bit nicer on a bigger bike but the SV coped admirably under the pressure! Easy on the throttle when starting off if you have a larger person on the back! - I learnt the hard way Rolling Eyes

I own and love a TDM, many people will on here will surely have noticed how often I sing it's praises, however if I were you I would probably go for Pan Euro. The TDM is perfectly capable of carrying the weight and it will be comfortable but I think the Pan Euro would be better. Thumbs Up

I have had from many a pillion the comment on how comfy the Varadero seat is. I find it very comfy and will easily carry 30++++ stone all day.
