Fireworks fail.....

Had a little mini fireworks display in the back garden last night, I managed to go from hero to zero in a matter of seconds:

Last year we took our 2nd youngest (then aged 3) to a 'proper' fireworks display, he hated all the noise and we had to take him home early and missed most of the display.

So, this year, we thought we'd do a little display in the back garden and the little ones could watch from the safety of the living room through the patio doors.

All was going really well, and they were absolutely loving it, cheering and clapping, giving countdowns and waving their little glowsticks around.

I built up the display, saving all the big bangs to the end. The finale was a 19 shot 'ninja' air-bomb repeater. The first 10 or so shots went well, then the (what I thought was securely propped up) fecking thing managed to knock itself over.

Of course, sods law dictated that when it toppled over it fell facing the house......

I took a couple of shots in the legs, the rabbit hutch took a couple of shots (thankfully it has a protective rain cover which prevented them from blasting into the hutch), and a couple of shots hit the patio doors, inches away from where the little 'uns were sat.

They were screaming in terror and were reduced to tears. Harry (aged 4) sobbing that he now hated fireworks, never wanted to see them again, and I'd tried to kill the rabbit.

Similar thing happened to me, catherine wheel poorly nailed into the fence, lit it, it spun and came off the nail, slow motion as wheeled it's way to a pile of 200 rockets sitting on my lounger (right next to the kids) Managed to stop it just in time.

Could be worse.

All of your fireworks could have gone off in 1 minute instead of the stated 30.

Common problem. 2 years ago I was doing a firework display for my sisters birthday. It said bury the cake into the ground upto a certain level. I cba digging a hole so I didn't. As soon as I lit it, I regretted not digging a hole. I saw it visible jerk sideways on each shot and as it got the end of one row, it went over, facing me. Cue me running across the field (I don't ever run) and diving to the ground. I am pretty sure I got hit by one of the stars coming out on my shoulder.

I once ducktaped one sideways onto some railings of a path about 100 feet up... from a Lidl carpark opposite our accomodation.

Over 10 years ago that happened to me at a display I was standing beside my friend who had a camcorder and we had a good view of the rockets that fell over cornering a friend. You can see me dodging across screen with a bottle of campaign pissed. I hope I never ever see that footage repeat.
