We would never have a war in the traditional sense like WWI and WWII so your question is invalid.
There is no way any country would be able to successfully land an invasion force on our beaches without us knowing beforehand that they were coming and we would stop them before they landed.
When we are overseas fighting wars e.g. Iraq and Afghan, I have no idea but can't imagine them changing battle strategies and not using certain equipment because they use diesel. |

the real question is why would any one invade the uk??
there are no natural resources to speak of,
no real manufacturing on a large scale
no useful amount of land for agriculture
no offence, but the uk is just a big dead bit of rock with far to many people living on it,
why invade when you could drop a few nukes and be done with it?? ____________________ the humans are dead

Do you think the British would make electric power and biofuelled tanks, etc?
Just a thought.
**The reason for this thought was; that I am currently watching something on WWII on TV and seen some footage of millions of Russian tanks all lined up and ready to go to war, and thought they would use a shitload of fuel.
However the UK seem to think they can save the world by charging over the odds for fuel (so we use less of it) while other counties dont bother their arse about conserving oil.
Which got me thinking, surely the time and effort required to make all these alternative fuels (not petrol or diesel) and the fact that everything was used (scrap matals, etc) during the war. Would ths be something the government would consider if war broke out?
Or would they say 'fuck it - all the crap wee have been preaching about carbon footprints, etc; lets all forget about it and lets win this fucking war'? |
You are kinda applying todays rules to yesterdays war, which isn't the same as Britain getting into a war today. As Keith said, the current envirocrap would be axed pretty fast. However, the use of renewables would actually be a good idea, since oil needs to be imported, and they may not be too easy to do, depending on the enemy.
In any case, if there were to be another major war facing the UK, they would be pretty screwed in most respects as our defence forces have HUGE holes in them, and are very thin on the ground.
- No maritime patrol planes, only helicopters, the range and endurance difference is ridiculous.
- Very limited number of "in service" fighter and strike aircraft as the Harriers have been scrapped completely and the other types reduced. There are currently 4 Eurofighter Typhoon squadrons, and 6 Tornado GR4 squadrons, with each squadron having 12 to 16 aircraft.
- The aircraft carriers are effectively all gone as there are no Harrier. The bulk of the combat fleet is 6 Type 45s air warfare destroyers (not all delivered yet), 13 general combat frigates, 8 ish nuclear powered submarines, and 4 nuclear powered nuclear missile submarines.
- The nuclear missile submarines could carry 144 nuclear warheads each (which is enough to deter anyone), but the government has kept cutting them, so now there are only about 36 on each submarine, and all but one are sat in dock. There's no financial or world peace benefit to this, the only tangible benefit is to help political parties get liberal votes, and help our enemies (who do you think funds CND?).
- No medium range surface to air missiles, only a few (tens) of short range systems, all others are man portable rockets for use against helicopters and very low aircraft.
- The Army has put in storage much of its heavier kit, not that it would make any difference without the RAF controlling the air. |

That's complete BS TBH. For a start, British nuclear forces do not use "codes". There are keys, one for the senior officers and one for the weapons systems officers, these go in separate safes, and are used to authorise a launch. No codes from the mainland are needed. The codes in question in this report are the serial numbers of the missiles, i.e the number on the side, they mean nothing! |

It is STILL highly dependent, i.e. maintenance, satellite guidance etc |
Again stop reading things from the newspapers like the Sun when you've got no idea whether they are true or not. The warheads and submarines are maintained in the UK. The missiles can be maintained in the UK too if we opted to do so, which we do not. The missiles don't need very much maintenance however, with intervals of many years, and on that timescale we could just do it outselves. And the final falacy, they do NOT use satellite guidance, if they did, the enemy would simply take out the guidance satellites, rendering all the missiles in the US useless too. GPS is for conventional munitions. |

They have already started the invasion and are mingling with our society just waiting patiently on the call coming through. |
How is that anyway like WWI or WWII? |
My hero Mr Hitler annexed swathes of Europe on the pretence that they were full of ethnic Germans, who were called on to rise up and support the invasions.
In our case though, Poland could essentially cripple us just by recalling all their plumbers. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
