I came out this morning to discover someone had tried to nick my pride and joy. My bike is protected by a clamp called a 'gorilla lock' which is cemented into my driveway and withstood the attack.

I'm happy about this because I've had a couple of bikes nicked. One of them was chained to a lamp post, alarmed, immobilised, disc locked, HISSed etc... and I was 10m away at the time. The other one was in my driveway and tea leaves had to move my car to get at it.

This time around, this exceptionally tough lock seemed to do the trick.

However, the clamp is now jammed and I can't get the bike out! Sure, I have contacted the gorilla lock people and will see if they can do something but does anyone else have any experience of unjamming a gorilla lock?

Sorry, can't help, but you may want to suggest to them that a happy ending is all that's needed to make for a great testimonial.

If the last thing that we read here is that you have to grind through it and leave yourself with a £300 Exclamation pile of useless scrap metal permanently cemented into your drive then it's not going to be a purely ringing endorsement for them.

Agree with Mr Borg. See if they will use it as a testimonial to their product and politely ask them if they will give you a new one in return Laughing

Good idea. I had a chat with them and they are coming around to do this, free of charge. Apparently they are stating that in circumstances like this, they will sort it all out without cost. If they do this, I will give them an outstanding recommendation.

Already, the lock is better than the previous lock / chain options and is a genuine thief stopper so I'm happy so far. My last couple of thief deterrents barely slowed them down (chaining a bike to a lamp post with the usual alarms, disc lock, immobiliser etc...) It's a good test to see what their 'aftercare' is like.

* Sighs * Everyone's a cynic.

I'm just cheesed off with having bikes nicked. Finally I have a product which seems to keep tea leaves away... but it's a little too effective and now jammed my bike in!

So we'll see what happens.

Your username is gorilla on a bike, you are singing the praises of the gorilla lock. Just to make it look convincing you throw in a negative but praise allah, one phonecall and the good guys at gorilla lock are personally calling round to fix it f.o.c.

If you can't see that looks suspicious you need to read it again.

looks quite interesting but, it looks a little flimsy and they want and extra 25 quid for a couple of extra plates to stop somebody whipping out the spindle and lifting the bike free

https://www.motorcyclenews.com/upload/276635/images/self-locking-ground-lock.bmp

I think for £299 i want to see some independant videos of one really been give some proper hammer before i left my bike locked up in one

glad your bike didnt get nicked though Thumbs Up

I don't think the OP is a spammer...

However I can see where the suspicion arises. If I was a spammer, making a small number of posts here and there on different forums and occasionally name dropping my product in relevant threads is exactly what I would do.

Thank you. As always, this is the internet and for all anyone knows, I could be a 17 stone, Chinese, rugby playing, BMW driving, film director.

As always I prefer to avoid getting into arguments on the internet as it becomes Special Olympics time.

However, I agree and would like to see an independent test. If you look at the spindle plate, it is a 'slow down' device. I think that with enough grunt, it would be possible to get past it but I think it would slow any tea leaf down and make it noisier.

And it costs more than £300. I had it cemented into my driveway and they fitted it with the plate so it cost more. I can't remember exactly how much because at the time I had money and didn't care... until my ex-wife walked away with all of it. Sad

I'd like to think it gives a little more protection than chaining a bike to a lamp post (which didn't stop the thieving b@stards last time). Personally, I'm toying with the idea of having a ground anchor for the back wheel at some point next year. I think that with a gorilla lock for the front wheel and a ground anchor for the back wheel, that should be enough. Or maybe if I add some machine gun posts as well...

Gorillaonabike, is there something to stop them unbolting the front wheel and leaving it behind whilst they leg it with the rest of it?

not as standard, from what i could see from their site you need to buy some aditional plates at £25 quid to stop that.

I quite like the idea of it but looking at the pictures on their site I dont think it would take a serious thief much to defeat it

Small padlock through the spindle instead of a splitpin?

Out of interest. Does that lock hold the bike upright? Would it stop your bike blowing over in a strong wind if it was parked outside?

Interesting.

Must admit I had the same thoughts about the security. I would love to give attacking one a go, bet I could get into it fairly swiftly and fairly quietly with minimal tools.

I had a go with a jemmy (because my bike is now stuck in it) and couldn't do it. I'm sure that it suffers from the same issue as a lock and chain in that the front wheel could be undone. The spindle protector will slow the thief down a little. It just makes it more of a pain in the butt to attack rather than just a straight chain and padlock.

Personally, I see it as a slightly better armoured chain and padlock with a little less hassle in terms of parking because when I arrive it clamps on 'automatically.' I always hated fiddling with a lock and chain in the rain. I can also get my pride and joy closer to my house in my driveway rather than in the street. If I can park my car in my driveway hassle free, why not my bike?!

As for holding it upright - yes, it holds a 260kg bike upright but I put the sidestand out just in case.

I bought it from 1stline Motorcycles because it gave me more trust than buying it directly. I have to confess I didn't initially trust the Eastern European dudes and because I was virtually the first guy in the country to buy one, they had to iron out a few issues. Now, I'm generally happy with it... unless of course, Ride breaks it apart in ten seconds...
