Thinking of doing a small informal charity ride out next year, anything from a hand full to possibly a couple of hundred bikes.
Thinking of the destination a limit may be imposed If I go ahead with it.
Date, location & route is easy enough.
Couple of questions though before I go any further.
What do others enjoy about the start & finnish locations.
What aspect of the ride (route) makes a ride out a must do.
Is a patch for the ride a priority.
Are you happy to make a small charity donation.
Are you OK with L plate learners.
Would you go on charity ride out to help the charity in question or mainly for the opportunity to ride with a group.
Is start & arrival times a deciding factor if you want to go.
There's probably more questions I haven't thought of but enough to start with.
The ride I'm thinking of will be in south Worcestershire and this has been posted in that section for a response from riders likely to attend.
I'm also asking in the national though.
A wider response may give me a few tips extra plus others from over the border may want to join in.
Been on a few rides myself & enjoyed them big & small but my opinions & thoughts may not fit in with the majority hence the questions.
Thanks in advance & over to you.

Pies.

Good roads.

What the hell?

Only if there's something really bloody good about the ride.

Of course, but no way I'm riding at their pace - they can catch up at junctions etc.

No.

Yes.

Oh and a final point - despite having used it a few times when I first used the internet, I personally considered "Thanks in advance" to be a bit rude. Think about what you're saying - "I want your detailed responses, but I won't even take the time to say thank you." BCF has a handy system where by you 'thank' people for a helpful post without clogging up the thread with replies too! (Not that I'm looking for Thumbs Up for this, as doubt it's the answers you want Smile.)

Oh yes I will but I may take some time thinking about any replies & wait even longer for a mixture to combine thoughts.
I've done a few rides this year & plan to do as many as possible next year.
For this planned ride I could just do things my way but while I have the time to wait I considered it more useful to find out about possible must do items that I might not of thought of or experienced & probably more important things to avoid.
One downfall of the thanks to each reply is a possible hot topic, lets say learners, what if I had a mixed reply from about 30 people
so in that instance one general reply would be done.
Any way I will now ponder over your reply.
Too valuable to ignore or rush in with comments without a good think over a cuppa & fag.

No need to say thanks individually to my mind - though with the post ratings system you can without disrupting the thread - just a "thanks for all the comments" in a post further down the thread.

Wouldn't have commented normally, but as it seems you'll be looking for people to pay you (aka the charity) for this service; you should really be thinking about how you present yourself!

No no no.
The rides I've been on have been for charity & a donation bucket present in the car park at the start & the two larger ones I've been on you don't get into the bike park without a sticker saying you have donated.
For the ride I'm thinking of a donation can be made at the end of the ride direct to the charity.
Not compulsory at all.
I just worded my questions to get a feel for what people thought not as an example to what I wanted.
The rides I'm filling my 2012 calander with are all charity rides & personally will donate to all of them.
Some are even pre pay.

The date & amount of riders have now been confirmed.
All details asked for are no longer required as this will be easily sorted within the group of riders involved.
This matter is now closed.
Thankyou.

None of what you continue to say really explains the 'no no no', nor contradicts my point?

The destination is a charity base, the ride is intended to be about the charity itself & therefore if anyone wants to donate directly to the charity they can.
I did clearly state a charity rideout in the OP.
I have no intention to handle any money except my own donation.
I spoke to the charity this afternoon about my thoughts, as they say the ball is now rolling.
The date & amount of riders have been confirmed.

You still haven't explained the 'no no no', nor contradicted my point?

Which was that if you're wanting to get money from people for services you are offering, it's worth considering the impression you are putting forward Smile.

I think my no answer explains itself, I clearly state a charity rideout & about donations to the charity & even confirmed donations if made will be direct not through myself, no where have I suggested I want to handle any money.
Are you suggesting all charity rideouts that ask for a donation is wrong or orasnisers want to be paid for getting a charity rideout sorted ??

I'm suggesting nothing of the sort.

It doesn't really matter who handles the money or where it goes.

You are organising something which money is being handled - you are the point of communication it sounds like.

Thus I added 'aka charity' to make it clear I was aware that was where the money was going Smile.

Clear on all points.
Biker wave to you for responding & getting some points discussed for others to read if they are thinking of doing a first charity ride next year.
