That doesn't make sense.

Can you try again please?

If you are having tankslappers on an RS125 then you either need to replace bearings (steering head and wheel bearings) or you are cursed.

Hi

You should not need a steering damper on an RS125. I have only had mine slap once, and that was from hitting a fairly large dip in the road while cornering.

Check the front wheel is round (ie, do dinks in the wheel rim), and that it is not buckled (ie, does not wobble). Check the wheel bearings. Check the steering head bearings. Check the forks for damping, and for oil leaks. Chec the forks have not been dropped down in the yokes. Check that the front tyre is suitable.

All the best

Keith

Tankslappers will occur on 125's often enough if the road surface is very bad etc. I had two memorable slappers on my 125 (easy now Wink ) on poorly surfaced roads with pot-holes. Just because it's not happened to yourself doesn't mean it doesn't happen does it? Rolling Eyes

Mines done it once and went lock to lock, when the front wheel hit a bump accelerating hard in 1st.

You can get a steering damper but you need to drill a hole in the frame to mount it.

Hi

Possibly, except I have had my RS for about 10 years, plus other Aprilia 125s for about 5 years before that. They are generally VERY stable and should not slap except under extreeme provocation, and even then just a simple single lock to lock. The early AF1 misbehaved on me once, hitting a bump while pulling out to overtake someone. The Futura only did it once, and that was on a very badly surfaced back lane, while doing over 80. The RS is probably the most stable.

None of these have been nasty, and none have done more than gone once from lock to lock. The Diversion is less stable!

If it is seriously slapping then there is a problem with the bike. All that adding a steering damper will do is hide the problem for a while (until it gets worse), while screwing up the low speed handling and possibly causing a high speed weave.

All the best

Keith

If there's a possibility of slapping happening then I'd say fit a dampener. Better to be on the safe side methinks. Thumbs Up

Such a mod would quite likely invalidate your insurance.

There's always a chance of a slapper on any bike but the chances do range from high to slim, isn't that right Ste! Wink

As far as the Aprilia goes I would say the chances are slim, if it's a regular occurrence I would suggest that you follow Keith's advice.

I've had a number of Aprilia 125's over a period of a few years and ridden them mainly around B roads and never had anything that I would call a real slapper.

Best to get the bike checked over properly in IMHO and go from there.

Never had a slapper on any of my bikes, though I used to find my nova got the attention of a few. Laughing

I wouldn't think you'd have that many problems on an RS125 unless you're pushing it quite hard. Probably get a good answer from www.bemsee.co.uk forum as there will be people who race them there Smile.

I'd ask what sort of roads you were riding on when the two incidents happened? Was it over a manhole cover or bumpy backroads?

Seems a bit over the top to go straight for a damper on something like that?
Doesn't it? Confused

If it was doing it under acceleration in a straight line its more than likely something silly like the front wheel bearing is worn or the front wheel needs balancing.

If you are in the Bracknell area pop over and I will have a look for you.

NC30's are quite slow-steering and stable though, it takes some effort just to get a head shake out of it.

One of the downsides of the R6 I'm afraid.. they slap like a biaatch!

Definitely fit one ASAP, you will notice a great improvement!

I tried posting this a few days ago but BCF got hungry and swallowed it so here it goes again.
