i have to agree. I think you need to calm it down a bit before you hurt (or worse) you or someone else. Im not saying that you have to it's your choice.

Wow, sounds like a douche of a driver to me... Sadly you get drivers that have no idea how to compose themselves on the road. I would guess that maybe he was D.U.I?

Well done for not crashing mate, but maybe knocking his wingmirror off was avoidable. Tut Tut Laughing

So, he shouldn't have stopped in the middle of the roundabout, you shouldn't have assumed he wouldn't (he's driving a bloody opel zafira, that should set some alarms off).

You shoudn't have shouted so much abuse, he shouldn't have driven so slow to piss you off. etc. etc.

Try to remain calm. You'll have a better day.

God, you guys. Change the feckin record.

Can we leave the bickering out, find a way to extrapolate the actual meat of the story, and just discuss the feckin subject, please?

The bloke has made several posts recently that bring up points that occasionally do merit discussion beyond "STFU, Walter Mitty" type criticism.

Who fuckin cares? Not everybody's life is perfect, and some people are just magnets for idiotic life events, one after the other. Not everyone settles down and fits into the 2.4 children lifestyle. So long as they don't impinge upon your actual life, what the fuck do you care?

Mr. Green Thumbs Up

Anyway.

I always worry about things like that.
Like, if the pillion dies and I don't ... how would I feel?

Or if you were the pillion and you lived but your actions caused the accident OR caused the rider directly to die.

I was once on the back when we had to brake hard on the junction at Chelsea Bridge, and I felt my arse lift off the seat. Luckily my bloke at the time kept it upright and kept going, but if it had all ended up going pearshaped, I would have probably dragged him over the handlebars Sad

He didn't nearly cause an accident, you did.

You saw he was foreign, maybe that should be a clue to give him a bit of extra space as he may be unfamiliar driving on UK roads?

When you can accept that you were to blame then you can start improving your riding. From your posts it sounds like your obs are way below par.

Take things easy before you hurt yourself worse, you hurt someone else.

Yay blame put on me because some foreign idiot slammed his brakes on and nearly caused me to crash into him and a car to crash into me.

Correct. You were following too close. No ifs, no buts, no maybes. If you have difficulty stopping when someone emergency stops at or on a roundabout (Or indeed at any time) then you're following too close. When you take a pillion you need to take into account for the extended stopping distances.

The blame lays mostly at your door I'm afraid. You should always expect other road users to do the unexpected. Thats what other road users do, from time to time.

My wife was waiting at a roundabout. She started to move when a car approaching in a left turn only lane decided to continue straight through and she had to brake to avoid an accident.

The impatient dozy nobber behind her had been looking at the approaching traffic and decided that she should have booted it and tried to get through. In the event, he slammed her right up the arse - that's my job.

Insurance found 100% in her favour, full recovery.

Take a deep breath, calm down, assume that the vehicle in front is driven by a drunk, codger, Elbonian or a broad on the blob like hellkat. You're not immortal, and even if you were in the right (and you weren't) you can either learn to ride defensively or ride your luck until it runs out.

You seriously rode like that with someone on the back? Right or wrong, getting involved in anything like that is so utterly wrong when you've got someone else's life in your hands on that pillion seat.

This.

With someone on the back just take a deep breath and get on with it, by yourself do what the hell you like.

And from the amount you post about almost crashing I think you must have poor obs, that or incredibly bad luck...

So, someone has a bit of trouble at a roundabout he's unfamiliar with (driving an opal, its probably an odd experience going the wrong way round a roundabout with cars coming at odd angles), but you know this roundabout well. You abuse him as you pass him (He got a bit of the horn and abuse). He tail-gates you (his bad), and brake tests you (again bad). You knock his wing mirror off (granted its only a Zafira so only 30-70 quid). Good job he didn't decide that knocking you off your bike was the next logical step in this progression.

Blimey, two short tempered idiots meet each other on the road, and inflame each other.

Grow up and calm down. Be the bigger man. People make mistakes, we can either make them worse (abuse), or let them go (cheery wave).

Aggressive behavior is obviously a no no but you handled your side of the situation very, very poorly. You had someone else's life in your responsibility. You can't just go do stuff like that, regardless who's to blame.

Self discipline my friend.

Refrain from taking pillions for while, please. The last thing future riders want out there are more statistics telling loved ones that motorbikes are bad.

problem with going around knocking peoples wing mirrors off is you forfit all argument and opinion on the event if needed later....who cares if the guy drove dangerously when you have just caused petty damage?

copper told me once,if after a verbal the situation does not improve then either pull over and let them go or take a new direction, easier said than done i understand.
