Not sure what to make of it, i ride the GT125R at the moment which is a good little bike.

Just not sure if this is nice or just odd... Some bits i like, such as the wheels and frame.

But the rounded rear end and odd front nose/headlight setup is fugly.

its not out yet, and may never hit the showrooms (such as the GT650X, Trend killer and a few other concept models)

Also they have got rid of the USD forks and V-Twin engine, looks like the single 125 engine from their dirt bike range has been used.

Also the exhaust placement looks so odd, im sure that would be a danger on UK roads when going over speed bumps/up kerbs and the likes?

Any thoughts...

I'm sure it will be high enough to be able to clear the road bumps, minimum ground clearance, like cars ?

As for the sharp front and rounded rear, it does look a bit odd, bit I could get used to it Smile

I dont like it. The whole appearance of the bike is fine, but it looks like lots of ugly parts put together.

Wouldn't it be better if they just updated the GT125 a bit..

Mmm. At least it looks like their design, rather than just ripping off a Japanese manufacturer. Good luck to them with it.

They have updated the GT125 abit, new paint, parts, FI etc...

This is the new paint scheme on the 650, 125 will get the same treatment

This isnt to replace the GT, its an alternative model to the GT.

ANd i dont think the GT is a ripoff of another bike, its kindof unique.

Looks abit like a Suzuki but the fairing shape, headlight shape etc... is all unique.

Mmm, but under the plastics, the GT/GTR range are essentially evolutions of the SV650 that Hyosung were already building under license, right?

That new one looks like a fresh design - for one thing it looks smaller than the current GTR 125, and the outboard shock is ripped off from more like an ER-6. Wink

Not really... the GT125/250's are more like a cross GS500 (frame)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/36/1997SuzukiGS500E-001.jpg/250px-1997SuzukiGS500E-001.jpg

and a Honda Varadero style engine
https://www.bikercafe.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/varadero_125_engine.jpg

The GT650 is a different frame and engine style which is more like the SV where the engine is hung rather than cradled by the frame.

Very informative. Yes, the resemblance to the GS500 frame is a bit blatant. Very Happy

Just abit lol.

They did originally design the 650 to have the same frame as the 125

A rare pic of it here
https://seaies.com/images/c395.jpg

But im sure there was something to do with the frame not coping with the power or something?

Hi

Suspect the GS 'based' frame could cope with the power, although maybe not resulting in a bike that handled well compared to its performance.

Looking at that pic (and it might be a trick of perspective) but it looks like the front forks are kicked out further than on the GT125 / 250 and GS500, and yet the front wheel is still very close to the radiator and cylinder head. Might be a case of there just wasn't space to adequately package the larger (and longer) 650 V twin into that frame.

Also possible that it comes down to costs reduction, and the time required on a production like to shoe horn in the larger engine into a fairly tight space. With their current design they can just drop the frame onto the engine.

How is the GT650 frame made? Is it a one piece alloy casting? If so then it might be pretty cheap to make. Quick casting, few mins in a CNC machine for the bits that are dimensionally critical and out pops a frame.

All the best

Keith

Yes maybe...

Im not sure how the 650 frame is made as i havent paid much notice to one up close.
Im more familiar with the 250/125 engine and frame setup but i suspect alloy casting as you have mentioned.

Hi

It looks cast, but not sure if it is a one piece casting, or multiple castings welded together.

I suspect the main reason the Japanese have moved to a greater amount of cast parts in their frames is that it is cheaper than multiple extrusions and pressings. And don't see any reason for Hyosung to be very different on this.

All the best

Keith
