Hi,
Hypothetical scenario:
70mph limit. Speeding, lots, xxxxx, accidentally. Pass new Ford Focus. Roundabout, continue at 70. Slow into a 40 limit. Focus comes ridiculously close. Indicate and slow, take a right turn. Notice in rear views the Focus had reflective markings on the side in block patterns similar to, for example a police car. No rear reflectives but a line of writing on bumper.
If this were to occur, would the person in question need to be worrying about their license?
Thanks

Would have thought they would have pulled you there and then. Police also tend to use stickered up Astras, not Focus's (Focii?).

Could have been highway maintainence?

Could have been a wannabe copper. A lot of ''security'' companies liver their vehicles to look like plod mobiles. It suggests to the unsuspecting that they are real coppers when in fact they are just unemployable tossers trying to frighten people.

I'd say Foci. Focus is Latin in origin (hearth, fireplace), so i believe the correct pluralisation would be with an 'i'. Having said that, I believe 'focuses' would also be correct.

Focuses sounds wrong me. I prefer the pluralisation of Foci. Thumbs Up

But, but, but wouldn't that then mean that the plural of Astra would have to be Astri or maybe Astraes?

Focen and Astrodes.

Both perfectly cromulent words. Shifty

OP, don't sweat it, and definitely don't document or hold your hands up to triple digits. If it wasn't a traffic car then it'll be an estimated speed, and worst case you should be able to bargain it down to something license-retaining.

Isn't astra already a plural of astrum?

Ad astra - to the stars.

Bloody Romans, what have they ever done for us?

I say people called Romanes, they go, the house.

If it had no blue lights on the top, it may have been a security guard or recovery agent, usually. Some police forces livery their PCSO cars like police cars but without the lights, so could have been one of those.

Nil I would say. If they were bothered, they would have pulled you then....

But they couldn't due to the absence of blue light on the top of their car.
