As I think I've mentioned, I'm at an uncertain point in my life at present. I'm saving everything I earn, but I'm not sure yet whether its for a globe trotting adventure, or for a house. As such, I don't have the disposable income for a 'proper' bike (I don't want to spend thousands of pounds on a bike that will be rusting in Britain whilst I'm in Asia struggling to feed myself, etc, etc, for obvious reasons). Having a spanking brand new, shiny superbike just isn't a top priority right now.

As such, I'm in my twenties and I have a runaround scooter (Peugeot Zenith) - it's mainly for getting to work, the grocery store, etc - and I'm looking for something more powerful second hand. But for now, I would like to derestrict the scooter, and see if I can get a little more bang for my buck.

So how do I go about this? Are there a a-z guide for newbies? Has anyone else any experience with derestricting a Zenith, 1998 model? How does this affect the insurance (currently standing at a mere £70 pa with Hastings- some of my friends pay this a month for their vehicles!)

Thanks for any help.

It will not effect your insurance.

There are 2 restrictions. One is a washer in the variator that stops the 2 sides off the pulleys coming completely together thus the highest gearing will not engage.

This is the main restriction. I took my washer out and got a 8mph increase in speed (from 31mph-39mph).

The other restriction is a pipe that comes off the exhaust. This needs to be chopped off and the hole welded up. This pipe chokes the engine at high rpm. By cutting it off you will get an increase in top speed to around 45mph and improved acceleration.

When you de-restrict the exhaust the carb has to be re-jetted. I recommend going up by 4 jet sizes. This is so that the engine does not run lean and over heat.
