how far?

just wondering how far you can get on a full tank of petrol on the nsr as mine seems to be really shocking and guzzles it.

well... i get around 100miles to £5.00... not sure how much that is in gallons though.
Thats probably a bad figure because I spend most of my time on the bike doing 90 in a straight line down an A road on my way to work, very boring indeed! Rolling Eyes

Never got much more than 100 miles on mine. Didn't really change on riding style either.

Around 100 miles on a fiver sounds about right I think.

I switch over to reserve at 100 miles anyway...saves embarressment of conking out at the lights!!! Rolling Eyes

But there is usually a bit left in the tank still. But always fill up when hit 100 miles, and never been caught short following this Thumbs Up

Anything less and I would wonder if the carb is set up right, in which case, perhaps a new thread in the Workshop forum might get you an answer.......... Thumbs Up

It's leaking at the carb area I'd reckon. To be drinking three times the amount of petrol it should be, something is stuck open. Confused

O.K. I must admit it does splutter sometimes but apart from that I have absolutely no idea what the problem is. One of my previous bikes also did this but I never really bothered tyring to fix it because the bike was ancient. Only just really took any notice of it because it seems to be getting to a expensive habit. Any ideas would be useful.

Hopefully its just something simple, the bike doesn’t look that old from the picture. When i first got the bike the choke got stuck open(carb end, you cant tell from the outside), which lead to major flooding and plug fouling I not sure if it would affect fuel consumption but it wrecked 2 plugs in the space of a week.

Hopefully Keith will post, he will probably have a good idea.

I went to a garage to have that fixed, as I didn’t feel comfortable
Removing the carb, but he said he freed the cable and cleaned the carb

My bike does about 60-70 miles to a fiver maybe less but my fuel tank doesn’t close properly and I think it evaporates out of there,
I went on holiday with a full fuel tank sitting in it, and it was almost empty when i returned, unless my mum road it which is very unlikely.

funny it passed its MOT, I thought a well fitting fuel cap was part of

I once rode my NSR home from a garage with the choke on full Rolling Eyes

I left with a full tank of fuel and only had half left after the 15 minute journey home. Doh! Suprisingly though it still pulled fairly well, although needed revving harder to pull away and the lower top speed was a bit noticeable. Maybe your choke isn't working properly? Just an idea.
