Back/Spine protector

Hi, my jacket doesn't have any back protection and doesn't appear to have anywhere to insert armour, so does anyone know a good value back/spine protector, that wouldn't leave me in a wheelchair if I hit my spine on the road, that I could wear as well?

My jacket is a Gear Hyper Waterproof jacket

All smothering Knox contour for me. I have the waistcoat type version that includes a built in chest protector, which IMO is worth just as much as a back protector now.

I like this type, you can wear it under a tee or sweat shirt whatever, elbows, shoulder, chest and spine protector, no coccyx protection though (someone else makes a similar style vest with coccyx protection, can't remember who right now), coccyx protection is well worth the extra imo.

I wear a snow-board body armour vest under a pretty standard leather jacket for summer weather use, but I hate going into a pub\restaurant and I have to take my jacket off, it gives me the profile of a Starwars Storm Trooper

I brought one from Lidles years ago - some grey thing - still as strong / looks new now. Unsure how great it would be tho.

This is probably a daft question, but when people wear/size back protectors/vests do they tuck them into the pants or are they supposed to sit a bit higher. I have two piece RST razor textiles at the moment which I always zip together, but in the spring time i will buy two piece leathers that I will zip together. Might get the extra protection first though.

Sorry to go of topic here a little...But i have a frank thomas jacket has a foam back protector.How do you know which proper Armour would fit..Been told there is some kind of code on the jacket to get the right one...

Is coccyx protection important? Or would it be fine to leave out? I can't imagine falling on my tailbone if I'm moving forward and come off my bike

I bought https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sking-Snowboarding-Motorcycle-Spine-Protector/dp/B004FKNTHC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320349572&sr=8-1, but I think I got it too small (20" back length), so I've ordered the medium size which is 23" back length, and when it arrives I'll compare the two and see if that fits well enough while covering more of my back (and send the other one back).

So where does it really need to start and end on your back?

P.S Sorry I haven't gotten round to introducing myself yet
