Good thread. Thumbs Up

Quote:
I recall an incident involving the father of a friend (posted elsewhere previously) who was stopped on New Year's Eve whilst driving in Glasgow. The Sergeant who stopped him became aggressive, seized the car keys, pulled my frien's father out of the car and assaulted him. He defended himself and was arrested. At the police-station he informed the desk sergeant that he was a police officer (from another Scottish force) and could only be charged by an officer of senior rank. The desk sergeant offered to call the duty Inspector. "Sorry, not senior enough!". "Sh1t!" said the Sergeant, "The Chief Inspector is at a Hogmannay Ball." "Oh, there's no need to trouble him!" replied my friend's father. The Sergeant's attitude changed considerably at this point. "Er, do you know anyone senior enough on this force, SIR?" "Yes ... David McNee!" (Chief Constable, later Commissioner in the Met.) The Sergeant had just arrested Edinburgh's ACC! He's probably STILL walking the beat - Streaky

I remember that story from when it first happened. It caused a chuckle throughout the Police service.

Same thing happened in Reading when a certain Chief Superintendent was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting, blimey did the sh1t hit the fan that day! Wink

I think the arresting officers were made to see the error of their ways and he was released without charge Wink

I was never directly involved as the Traffic Garage where I was based is a few miles down the road from the Divisional Headquarters in Castle Street, but I know the story did the rounds for quite a time!
